Can you still use the Flashlight Seperately?
I enjoyed the either/or-but-not-both. Please tell me they didn't swap one lack of option for another lack of option.

no. no option either it made a useful melee weapon so it's a shame

Can't. They removed flashlight mechanic completely . The one you get now that is mounted to your head is not the same , it's artificial , it doesn't cast shadows on anything like the old flashlight. A fake light unlike the old dynamic flashlight .

Ugh. I understand why they added the flashlight and gun simultaneous option. People griped. But why F one set of people to F the other. People come rarely post their extreme satisfaction. The silent majority devs, come on, you've done this before.

it is a shame i think it was everyone's favorite melee weapon in the game.

This is old, but you can enable Flashlight Shadows in the Main Menu Options.
Always have been.

This is a big disappointment for me. I loved Doom3 when it came out. I was much younger and I remember it being so immersive with awesome graphics (lol). But what I remember most was how scary it was. The flashlight mechanic of forcing you to choose between moving forward into potential danger with either your gun out and limited visibility, or no gun out and only your flashlight to see what's around corners and maybe smack a zombie in the face with when he pops up and scares the fecal matter out of you. As much as people complained about not having a gun with a light on it, the reality is it's what made the game so suspenseful and scary as hell. So not only have they taken away an entertaining melee weapon for when ammo was low, but they have totally taken away a fundamental aspect of what made this game so memorable as a super scary FPS game from my childhood. They should have at least made it an option in settings to toggle the original flashlight mode ON/OFF and leave the choice to the player how they want to play the game. Especially when it was the ORIGINAL GAME TO BEGIN WITH!!!! Bring back my skull cracking flashlight!!!

I think that the Devs should have put in an replacement for teh Flashlight as a melee weapon, an inbetween the Fists and the Chainsaw. Maybe a Security baton? Something like that, at least.

Too much of the System/Bio Shock series of games, and if you want to suggest a crowbar, too much like Half-life.
Nope u cant. Get the original doom 3. And if u change ur mind and want the both flashlight and gun option get the free Duct Tape mod.

BFG was a lazy console port and a failed attempt at pleasing "♥♥♥♥♥♥ doom fans" They had an excellent but flawed horror game but chose to turn it into a terrible wannabe Doom action shooter with the flashlight-on-gun option on BFG edition.
I think that for the Melees, an swap system with some of the Melee stuff the zombies use would have been better. Wrench, crowbar and the Security Baton. If ithere is a knife, that as well. Basically a choice of melee weapons.

Well, Doom isn't resident evil for starters, its supposed to be shotguns and demons at breakneck speeds, so I don't understand the whole deal with the flashlight. Its a way better option on BFG edition than the vanilla version. Doom 4 has it right except it has the whole "brutal doom" influence crap.

It'll never be as good as the old ones was once.
Question, is there a mod that lets the player have some melee weapons? If yes that would be rather neat.

You know how you can select stuff from the same category of weapons types in some games? Something simialr in a mod.

Actually yes getting a Security Baton would have been rather neat, or a Marine Service Knife.
To elaborate, either a Security Baton or a Marine Service Knife as a starting weapon would have been neat.

Don't blame console. BFG wasn't a 'port', the original Doom 3 game came out on both PC and console at the same time, and the console version had the either/or flashlight option too. I know because that's how I beat it all those years ago.

Doom 3 isn't 'shotguns and demons at breakneck speeds', and taking away the lighting mechanic doesn't change that. All it does is negate all the atmospheric lighting and make the game easier. There are tons of parts in the game where 'fighting a monster in the pitch black' is the entire point and challenge of the set piece, that people playing BFG edition don't get to experience.
