At least it came with Doom 1 and 2
Such contrast between old and new, Doom 1 and 2 never get old. I never played doom 3 until today.....and im not really enjoying it. Gameplay and level design are much better in the original games.

I know many people like doom 3, but to me it feels like a real generic shooter.

You fight demons of hell and zombies and other crap with all the same weapons pretty much. The only differences is the graphics, level designs that add realism, the use of a flashight, actual 3, and a story...it is the first game remade that way. It is also made in the same universe by the same developer.

Yet its not enjoyable for me. In my opinion this is a perfect example as why graphics and so called 'realism' dont make a game better. To those that like Doom 3....great, have fun with it. Im just not feeling it, game doesnt seem like Doom at all

I dont know....maybe its because I grew up in the Doom era. Everybody is entitled to there own opinions.

I did too lol I mean the original Doom 3 has a more nostalgia feel over the bfg edition...the bfg edition is changed in many ways. Technically the gameplay and nature of the game isn't the same in the BFG edition. I can see someone starting from the BFG edition hating it because the original is a great horror take on doom...where this version has a too bright environment. It is like if pyramid head became barney. Try the original doom 3 and roe over this version because more people hate the bfg changes then the original...bfg was made to fix what people were whining about in the first and update the graphics/remaster them...which kinda made it not the same as the original Doom 3. Don't let BFG cloud your judgement of the original 3.

It's honestly surprising to me, going back to Doom 3, how similar it is in some ways to the first two. People go on about the monster closets, but that's definitely one of the carryovers from the original. It's definitely a horror take on Doom and not an entirely new gameplay experience.

That said, it obviously has its issues and hasn't aged super well, given the evolution horror games have gone through since then. I can totally see why people wouldn't like it.

I think your missing the point he is trying to make, if he does not like BFG he certainly will not like DOOM 3 on the original realease which is much darker/slower version/take where with BFG ID changed the pace of the game to better reflect the gameplay of the originals, that was the point, it was not just a re-relese, the original poster just prefers the original DOOM games.

Myself I have every DOOM game and I like them all, the original DOOM 3 looks good modded out but there are things with BFG that make me enjoy that spin as well, everyone has their opinion but wow these games are so cheap now just own them all!!!!

But, he said he never played the original Doom 3 until he tried the BFG edition. The experience just isn't the same if you think about it. I'm saying he should try something before hating on it. He tried the bright and fast paced version where the game's atmosphere is completely different. That changes the feel to the gameplay meaning he truly hasn't experienced Doom 3 properly. For example Resident Evil 4's Wii version was buggy and the controls changed up the gameplay which people hated. Those who played the older RE4 felt a dramatic difference in the gameplay because of that simple change. If there's change in story or gameplay in anyway...then chances are...the experience isn't the same. I'm not saying he can't hate this version of Doom 3. I'm saying why hate both versions when you only tried one...another example is saying you hate cola because you tried pepsi, so that makes coke bad to you too when you never even tried coke...just pepsi which is sweeter than coke's bolder taste...so, I'm all fine with them hating the BFG edition for at least trying it, but hating the classic when you never even experienced the classic properly is just autistic. "I hate colors because blue."

I think your missing the point of what was being said DOOM and DOOM 3 are two totally different games with the same world, with DOOM 3 ID was trying to attempt horror vs. run and gun, with the BFG release they changed the pace of DOOM 3 to be more toward the gameplay of DOOM vs. a slow crawl in the dark to scare you, but DOOM will always be DOOM, and DOOM 3 will always be DOOM 3, anyway here is a interview with ID before BFG came out.

Doom 3 BFG Edition won't be just another re-release with bonus content.
In a recent interview with VG247, id Software's Tim Willits said that Doom 3 BFG Edition isn't merely a re-release of something old with added content:

It's a complete overhaul of the 2004 slow-paced survival horror shooter. Willits said the studio has returned to its roots with this release, cranking up the action so it's not such a gloomy crawl-fest.

Of course, there's more to the BFG Edition than cranking up the action. Levels have been re-designed to match the pace, and the team has thrown in new textures to bring the game up to speed on current consoles. Other goodies include new lighting mechanics, the new eight-mission chapter called "Lost Mission," and bits of Rage tech thrown into the mix.

"It’s not just Doom 3 – that’s what we’re keen to make sure everybody knows," Willits said. "We’re doing more with Doom 3 BFG than just re-releasing the original. We’ve actually put a heck of a lot of Rage tech into the Doom 3 engine to kind of modernize the game."

As an example, the team tossed in the Rage input control and checkpoints. They also updated the lighting so it's brighter throughout the game, changed the annoying flashlight, tweaked the ammo, and even implemented the Rage network layer to make it run faster at low latency. There's also 3D support, and multi-display support for the PC platform.

"We went through every single level of the original and things that were really frustrating or not fun, we made them more enjoyable. So it is really kind of cool for us – especially as we all love the Doom franchise – to go back and rework the game in such a way," he added.

Doom 3 BFG Edition has enough small changes to essentially re-introduce the franchise to old and new fans alike. "Everyone’s heard of Doom, but you’d be surprised at just how many people haven’t actually played it," he said.

As for the specs needed to run the PC version, they'll obviously need to be higher than what was required in 2004. Willits said the biggest change with the PC version is that it now runs at 120 Hz. The team also revamped the HUD elements, the PD elements, and made map modifications. Overall the biggest glaring change will be for console junkies who purchased Doom 3 for the original Xbox eight years ago.

That said, the interview went on to talk about tweaking the map designs. He pointed out one section in the Alpha Labs that simply had to go because it was incredibly... not fun. "There was this part where you walk up these stairs, and the stairs fall apart behind you and Imps spawn in front of you," he said. "When we were playing through that earlier this year we were like, 'this is not fun right here…this was a bad idea.'"
"We grabbed our young designers and said, 'young designer, this is a bad design right here. How do you think we can fix it?’ and so we fixed it," he added. "You know it’s kind of funny, because most of the guys who worked on Doom 3 originally, they still work there."

"One of the guys wanted to go back and up-rez and make the characters look better, and a texture artist said, ‘you know, I never liked those textures, can I go back and fix them?’ and we said ‘sure, go ahead, knock yourself out and fix them up,'" he said.
Sounds like Doom 3 BFG Edition will be an entirely new experience when it launches on October 16.

I think if they made 3 faster paced without changing everything else...it would have worked better. Doom is supposed to be gory, ♥♥♥♥ed up, and fast paced. It is like they split the two apart when they made the classic and bfg. So, that's why I say nostalgia=Doom 3 while BFG=Gameplay.
