I mean what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Changing the timer of the flashlight to keep it on longer, or? Changing the game play style of gun to flashlight, or?
Game dev major. D:
But, if you remember, when Doom 3 was released that was one of the biggest gripes from most people. Everyone constantly complained about the flash light. In a realism perspective it makes sense though - just about anybody (especially a marine) can hold a flashlight and a pistol at the same time. :)
I'd say just play through Doom 3 BFG for the different experience and then just play your regular old Doom 3 for all the mods and stuff.
Who marines? Yeah.
I'm just saying that if necessary, any of us could hold a flashlight and a pistol simultaneously. Most street cops are trained to do so...
And..even if you couldn't..you'd learn REALLY quick if you were in that situation. I know that if I was the 'Doom Guy" in Doom 3 - i'd never put my flashlight in my pocket.. lol I'd hold it the whole time.
You can change the lighting easy, and the FOV has a slider in the options screen so thats also easy.
It is more realistic to have a suit-mounted light, it's just that when a game is designed around the tension of having to choose between a light source and weapon in a lot of dark areas, with cool visuals like glowing eyes, etc, it can kind of hurt the presentation of the game to just go and change a mechanic like that.
Not the biggest problem, though. I keep it off quite a bit, and the battery still drains fast. Maybe if they gave it a much longer cooldown/recharge period, it would help players to conserve their use and not just run around with it on non-stop.
seta r_lightscale 1
in the default config file in your base folder, or type it into the console. It's much darker but I couldn't stand how bright they made it. Totally kills the atmosphere, imo.
The new way not as good--I can't even bash things with the flashlight like that! How is NOT bashing things more fun than bashing them with a big metal flashlight-handle? ???

The light is off to the left! Why, why!?
Someone should totally make a mod, an original Doom³-"fix" for the BFG Edition! Why not!? ???
