Guides for making BFG more like original Doom 3?
So I was ♥♥♥♥ed after buying this (even at the steal of $5 with D1 and 2) that the lighting and flashlight have been changed so drastically.

But soon I found some console fixes to return the lighting to the original Doom 3 style, which is a lifesaver. Console fix for the FOV as well. The flashlight is permanently buggered, I take it, but I was wondering why there aren't any guides on how to do this since it seems to be one of everyone's main gripes with BFG version.

Are there guides that I just missed, and are there any other fixes to make this edition closer to the original Doom 3?

Not really when the game is programmed a certain way. You'd not only need to redesign the modeling[if you mean the gameplay style of the flash light to gun], but get the free source code then script it up yourself outside of steam with the proper development tools. I mean I just don't see the console having the ability to completely change a do until like that in the C++ script. <.< You'd need deeper access to the code then slight hack modifications in a console.

I mean what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Changing the timer of the flashlight to keep it on longer, or? Changing the game play style of gun to flashlight, or?

I liked the old flashlight too, and wish they could at least have provided an option to switch it back and forth between the old style and new style.

But, if you remember, when Doom 3 was released that was one of the biggest gripes from most people. Everyone constantly complained about the flash light. In a realism perspective it makes sense though - just about anybody (especially a marine) can hold a flashlight and a pistol at the same time. :)

I'd say just play through Doom 3 BFG for the different experience and then just play your regular old Doom 3 for all the mods and stuff.

Don't they have flashlights attached to their guns now?

Who marines? Yeah.

I'm just saying that if necessary, any of us could hold a flashlight and a pistol simultaneously. Most street cops are trained to do so...

And..even if you couldn't..you'd learn REALLY quick if you were in that situation. I know that if I was the 'Doom Guy" in Doom 3 - i'd never put my flashlight in my pocket.. lol I'd hold it the whole time.

Lol yeah, I think the flashlight with the pistol would be the best option, then you could upgrade to a tactical light on your different guns later.

You can change the lighting easy, and the FOV has a slider in the options screen so thats also easy.

It is more realistic to have a suit-mounted light, it's just that when a game is designed around the tension of having to choose between a light source and weapon in a lot of dark areas, with cool visuals like glowing eyes, etc, it can kind of hurt the presentation of the game to just go and change a mechanic like that.

Not the biggest problem, though. I keep it off quite a bit, and the battery still drains fast. Maybe if they gave it a much longer cooldown/recharge period, it would help players to conserve their use and not just run around with it on non-stop.

Also for anyone who wants regular Doom 3 lighting, btw, just put

seta r_lightscale 1

in the default config file in your base folder, or type it into the console. It's much darker but I couldn't stand how bright they made it. Totally kills the atmosphere, imo.

Yeah, yeah, even though a Marine can hold a flashlight and a gun at the same time, or has a flashlight on all their guns, or whatever, I still like it much better the original way. I never complained about the flashlight back when Doom³ was new and didn't like the complaints, thought at the time it was just a big bunch of babies complaining inanely like they do.

The new way not as good--I can't even bash things with the flashlight like that! How is NOT bashing things more fun than bashing them with a big metal flashlight-handle? ???

AND look at this:

The light is off to the left! Why, why!?

Someone should totally make a mod, an original Doom³-"fix" for the BFG Edition! Why not!? ???
