BFG or DOOM 3
i've played DOOM (so much), DOOM 2, FINAL DOOM, and recently a decent amount of BRUTAL DOOM... but i never played DOOM 3.

so it comes down to the age old question, and i'd like to make my decision based on the opinions of the players: should i play DOOM 3 or DOOM 3: BFG?

graphics aren't an issue for me. it seems like there is a lot of fuss about which one has the better, though both look gorgeous, especially for 2004. the lighting being a large part of the argument. i would prefer the one with better graphics, but if this will negatively effect the gameplay, then n/m.

as hinted, gameplay stands above all. i know there are differences. which has the better in ur opinion and why?

some things i'm curious of are issues. any bugs or glitches in BFG that aren't in the original or vice versa? does the original have trouble running on Windows 7?

any additional info provided will help as well, so share whatever u wish. i'll be posting this at the BFG hub as well.

i'd recommend getting the original 2004-05 release of "Doom 3" and "Resurrection of Evil", because at least they're moddable and alot more challenging. Not to mention, you can also download Trent Reznor's original sounds for the old 2004 release and it also automatically carries over into "Resurrection of Evil"

3 for mods, BFG for gameplay.

BFG is awesome if you want one doom package without wanting to spent a lot of time for modding. If you have no problem with modding, you can get a bit better gaming experience with the original releases. But in my case i am totally fine with the BFG. Did not play any doom title before and i have my fun. I personaly did not notice any graphical glitches or so.

Well, in the original you couldn't use your flashlight and gun at the same time but that's been fixed in the BFG edition.

that reminds me, I might fire up another gameplay round before I overhaul my PC

Get Doom 3. The multiplayer is still somewhat active there.

Original for modding, I got the BFG edition to have Doom 1 and 2 easily accessible via steam, I still have my Doom: Collectors Edition cd set safe upstairs, I dont want to even touch the discs lol. If anything you could get them during a summer or winter sale

Incase you regret buying the BFG/2004 release, you can actually buy the other one, unlinke other steam games...

DOOM 3, get the doom 3 grafix mod, makes the game look better than bfg

If you have never played Doom 3 before, you should get the BFG edition, otherwise you'll have to still buy Resurrection of Evil, and 2004 doom 3 doesn't come with the Lost Missions.

does bfg run on windows 8.1?

Are there gameplay changes in BFG apart from the flashlight? I had thought it was only graphical tweaks, but I've heard BFG is easier because of changes to damage and amount of ammo from pickups, etc.

They removed the selectable flashlight, it's now on your shoulder. Your character also runs faster, for better survivability. More supplies in every level but armor is almost like a placebo as all attacks go right through it.
Just play it on a harder difficulty, the supplies will offset the harder difficulties but won't ruin the game.
ROE is harder anyways just because it's an expansion and you would already be used to the playstyle from d3 so it just throws you right in.
Same with lost missions.
