How to run Doom 3: BFG Edition. Solving, "doom3 has stopped working" (grey screen problem).
Just turn off Steam Beta Update client mode and restart Steam. Done! (The easiest way is probably the best one :P)

Just like to add. Verifying before can help too. The corruption isn't auto corrected by this for everyone, so verify the game's integrity then try this.

It helped me :P

Not what I meant. Your step alone didn't help me. What happened was ID sent out a corrupted patch update to some people. Ironically at the same time steam's last update happened, and also conflicted with this for some people. So, I'm saying if they try your step and that doesn't work then try to verify the game's integrity first then do your step incase they got the corrupted patch update like I did..

ID seemed shocked about this. What had happened was the last steam update caused a few conflictions with ID's update. So, for those who got a broken patch do the verifying to get the proper update from ID then do your step. If not then just do your step. They said if you are still having issues to try "
1. If you wouldn't mind for me, please navigate to C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM 3 BFG\base. You will find a file called D3BFGConfig.cfg there.

2. Open this file using your preferred text editor program (Wordpad, Notepad, Word, etc.)

3. Scroll down until you find a command line that says set r_fullscreen "1" . This is going to sound strange, but you want to change the 1 to a 0 (set r_fullscreen "0") and this will force the game to run in Windowed mode. If this still doesn't work, you can try using values "3" and "4". These values will trick the game into running in different "monitors" and this should resolve the issue." The said that if none of these work then contact them, and they'll get their team on it right away.
