IGN says Doom (4) looks awesome!
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/18/doom-gameplay-unveiled-at-quakecon-2014

-Fast-paced combat against multiple enemies at once - Doom 3 this ain't.
-Set outside a massive UAC research facility on Mars as it's being invaded by the forces of Hell.
-Hellknights, cyberdemons, revenants, mancubii, and other classic monsters were spotted throughout the demo.
-Classic Doom weapons, including the fan-favorite double-barrell shotgun return. Plasma rifle, rocket launcher, and the good old chainsaw were also shown off.
-Go fast. "Doom is not about about taking cover" said executive producer Marty Stratton.
-Doom is powered by IdTech 6, and will be for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. They are "committed" to 1080P at 60 frames-per-second.
-Wonderfully gory close range executions, including special ones for dropping down on enemies from above.
-Revenants now have jetpacks and can hover about while firing rockets at you.
-At least one weapon, the combat shotgun, has an alternate fire mode, which allows you to charge up and release multiple shells in rapid succession.
-Sprinting, double-jumping and mantling are all possible, making for very fluid motion during combat.
-Enemies can teleport in for old-school style ambushes
-Dying results in a crazy fatality scene depending on what killed you a la Dead Space. Revenants rip your arms off and punch straight through your combat helment.
-Old school mechanics. No reloading your clip, hold as many weapons as you want, health and ammo pick-ups etc. NO REGENERATING HEALTH.

Thoughts:
-id Tech 6? I didn't think it would be used in Doom.
-No regen health... woo!
-Starts on Mars? Maybe you go to Earth later...
-Brutal executions... sounds like they're fans of the Brutal Doom mod.

OMG I LOVE DOOM I CAN'T WAIT FOR DOOM 4!!!!!! Although, I won't overhype it, since many did with Crysis 2 and it sucked for most, but I totally expect a lot from Doom.

How come everyone hates regenerating health all of a sudden?
Also, parkour mechanics and brutal executions?
And the death cutscenes sound like Doom 3 Alpha, I wonder if there will be stealth too? I love stealth, especially in horror games, the tension of hiding right next to them.

All of the sudden?

People have hated it since 2009 when games used it too much for the wrong reasons and it started showing its flaws and how easy it makes games. Only Halo and CoD (whether you think it is a good game or not) should use it.

Oh, I thought all the sheeple hated CoD and shunned almost all it's mechanics.
I prefer games that regenerate up to a threshold like Mafia 2 where you have to heal to regain your maximum but you can regenerate ALMOST.
The thing is, health pickups sometimes don't work for every game, like in Blood 2 you can get frequently stuck as enemies are very accurate and damaging and everyone asks about a godmode cheat when playing that game.

Ok, my thoughts of this: I have high hopes for the upcomming Doom 4 (sorry, Doom the reboot), mainly because of the success there has been lately with old franchises getting revitalized (Wolfenstein, Shadow Warrior, Rise of the Triad...) From the looks of it, they've taken inspiration from Brutal Doom, the awesome mod (this is speculation taken from what I've read), which is great. Some things I'd like to be used in this new installment of the series:
- Non-linear maps - they don't need to be complete mazes like the original two, but something inbetween, that can merge without compromise the story and the gameplay would be great
- Silent protagonist - one of the things I praise in Doom 3 is the fact that they kept the silent protagonist. It goes better with his badass attitude and is one of the things that defines the franchise
- BFG - I doubt this beastly weapon won't make an appearance (it's like the mascot of the series), but still, just to make sure, it's better to ask for it :P
- Coded for PC - I loved Rage, despite the criticism, but one thing I've gotta admit, it wasn't a very good port. I struggled almost everytime I tried to make the game run on my AMD card, having problemas with the textures, amongst others. So for Doom reboot please make it first for PC and then for consoles iD. Remember your origins and don't screw us over the consoles!

I kinda don't like the fact that they are taking inspiration from the mod because it will likely feel jarring, like you are playing a game modded and it feels so different because modded games feel, unsurprisingly... modded... because you modded it. Doom wasn't originally a game where you could rip the heads off of enemies and flip them off, but then again Doom 3 wasn't like the originals either... I hope they have a nice balance of atmosphere and fast-paced action.
