DOom 3 headset is in use by game?

CAn someone please tell me how to disable it? Was talking to my Girlfriend on here and started up the game and I could hear her but the game basically put me on hold and she could'nt hear me. IS there a way to turn it off? I looked in settings and didn't see it, but I'm derpy and could've missed it.
