Doom 3 looks like crap
Graphics settings is extremely limited. How do I fix this? Nexus mods, or something?

Graphics settings are limited because it's basically running on idTech5 like rage does.

Ummmm... no. You're very very wrong. Doom 3 is running idTech4, and it's the only game they made that used idTech4. Rage is idTech5, where they introduced megatextures, and the engine was completely redone after idTech 4. idTech 1 is Doom/Doom2, idTech 2 is Quake/Quake 2, idTech 3 is Quake3 Arena. I would call Doom 2016 idTech 5.5, even if Bethesda calls it 6, because it's the same engine that Rage used, but with improvements. However, since John Carmack didn't design the engine, and it's based off the existing code of idTech 5, it's not a new engine.

And the BFG edition is a neutered version of the original Doom 3. iD was sued by someone who said that Carmack stole his programming for the lighting effects. Carmack said he didn't, they arrived at the same dynamic lighting programming by chance. But long story short, they didn't want the lawsuit, so they settled; that meant they couldn't sell the original Doom 3 version anymore because the lighting algorithims were under dispute. So they released the BFG edition, which looks far inferior to the original version.

The version of Doom 3 in the bfg edition was ported over to ID tech 5, so your second sentence is wrong. I agree with everything else though.

I got this game back when it was originally released on PCCD back in I think 2004 at release for like $60 but never had a regret.

I kinda laugh now at the system requirements but back then this game required a BEAST of a machine to run well. Now though it's still fun as hell to play but graphics are dated nit for some reason the BFG edition the graphics seem to not look as good as I remember them

Turn off LOD BIAS completely. It makes textures blurry.

Note that copying my mod combination isn't gonna get you these exact screenshots. Sikkmod is extremely customizable , there's a TON of settings to tweak and mess around with. IT can literally make your Doom 3 look like anything. Its all up to your personal preference so if you do give sikkmod a try, just tweak all the settings around to your liking/

Copy paste of my Doom 3 BFG VS modded

I think BFG edition does somewhat support modding now, its just a hard workaround and you wont get all the mods available for Vanilla D3 as modders aren't making anything for BFG or not porting current mods over.

Anyway's here's some screens of my different settings in D3.
-Vanilla modded vs BFG
-CG_Parm 22
-Dark
-Nightmare (Less filmgrain version of Dark)
-Parallax Occlusion Mapping addition
-HQ Menu and Load screens

Particularly love CG_Parm 22 and Nightmare.
Make sure to also check out the last pictures on the difference between no Parallax and with it on. Big difference on textures (Third pic shows it best)

*Keep in mind these are old screenshots I took awhile back. My config looks much different now that I have configured/customized the mod a bit more to my preferences. Another thing to take note of is that I have my Nvidia colors customized to my monitor, so depending on your monitor/color settings my screenshots may look too dark or too bright, its up to you to set your settings. Best one to set if you have an Nvidia video card would be the "Digital Vibrance" settings in Nvidia Control Panel, which enriches the colors in anything.

The mod also lets you change the "color" of the environment. Here's one using a different number, 22 I believe which removes the darker tone and makes it more color vibrant.
