custom map making?

If I make my own maps can i put the wad file in the wad folder in the steam folder and have it show up in game or do i need to old doom launcher for that to work?

I don't think the original Doom's that come with the game support custom maps unless you edit the wad itself.

What you probably should do, is take the wad out of the folder and download GZDoom or ZDoom (they aren't old :P).

Keep in mind however, that the Doom wads are edited, and thus your maps may or may not work for others using the original Wads.
