Ground combat
Hi There,

first of all I’m a real fan of games in this genre and similar ones. But there is one key feature that annoys me on nearly all of them!

You conquer planets without ground troops. It would not only give broader tactical depts., but would also add a huge gain in game fun.

There are several ways one could include such a feature, some ideas below:

1. Give a simulated battle that runs in a small screen, e.g. like in Hearts of iron, but with less tactical math’s in the background.
2. Run map war like in Empire at War, Star Wars.
3. Run given generated Wars like the space wars implemented so far.
Either way, troop research would have to be included, several types of units (e.g. Close combat, ranged and artillery). A separate research tree, scoping the size of the other four might be appropriate.

If this feature was included in a spectacular enough way, you would have the stuff for a real DLC or Add-on that would generate more income to that producing company and result in an even better game!

That would be awesome! I think the devs accomplished a lot given their company size, but still, if Endless Space had ground/planet combat or at least the necessity for ground troop transports to capture planets, it would add to the experience.

The lack of ground warfare is something I noticed early on. Endless Space is a remarkably polished game in my opinion but as you guys say, some type of ground combat representation would really complete the game. If anything, a small animation like when you look at a solar system and see the 4 or 5 or however many planets there, wouldn't it be neat if you seen your ships (assuming you are blockading or invading) surrounding the planets or better yet in the case of invasion, see your ships providing orbital bombardment to the planet surface, maybe some flickers to show hotspots on the planet where battles are taking place. Thats a simple representation without any stats or micro managment, but implementing a whole new aspect of the game like ground warfare would almost certainly have to be in the form of a dlc I would imagine.

Good thread!

ES does need an expansion on the invasion system, at the very least graphically. I think a good solution would be the addition of a troopship hull, with bonuses for the planetary invasion modules. Having functional defences that do more than slow down the attacking forces would also increase strategic depth; turrets and ship garrison that can damage troopships and blockades for example. A nice aesthetic touch would be to replace the current defensive system improvements with more relevant ones; starting with a colonial militia, working up the tree towards a professional army, independent to each system.
But overall, yeah; it'll be a DLC if it ever does get implemented.
