New Player Question: Terraforming/Planet Improvements
I'm going to do my damndest to not make this TL;DR.

What I understand about Planets/Terraforming:

1: There are different Tiers (classes) of planets, ranging from 1-5. Five essentially being the suck-ass planets, and class one being the God Tier planets.
2: That through sciences and upgrades, you can take ♥♥♥♥♥♥ planets, and make them less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ (adding air, water, flora, fauna, ect). Thereby changing how you can edit/exploit/improve the planet and what it can give you.
3: That planet sizes cannot be changed whatsoever, only types.
4: That each planet type gets certain bonuses and attributes that aim towards specific FIDS counts. (Not what I'm concerned about however).

What I'm inquiring about:

Let's say I have a Lava planet. I want to take my time, craft it, and take it from a fiery hellhole, all the way to a Terran planet. Now I've scoured the Amplitude, Steam, and other assortment of forums trying to find an answer, and cannot find a damn solid answer whatsoever.

Is there any straightforward way of terraforming planets in a simple method? For example:
Lava<Barren<Arid<Tundra<w/e, all the way to Terran? I know that you can terraform classes of planets back and forth to 'meet' whatever need you might have, but that's not the case. Lets say for ♥♥♥♥'s & giggles, that I want solar systems with nothing but Terran planets that I've crafted from essentially ♥♥♥♥ planets. Lets say that I don't have any specific need for specialty planets. Can anyone help, without providing that damn chart from the Wiki, or to put it bluntly, just provide an answer that I can follow?

I've honestly wracked my brain trying to get a grip of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but here goes in the simplest way I can:
First research all the terraforming technologies. I think they're all in the Exploration technology tree. After that you have to do it step by step on every planet. Terraform a sucky planet to a less sucky planet tier, then terraform that to a not so sucky planet tier and so forth until you have reached terran or whichever planet type/tier you're after.
So basically research all the terraforming techs and then terraform the planet you want up tier by tier until you are at Terran. You should be able to figure out the tier order from the wiki or the research tree in the game.
@Tarm I understand completely what you are saying. However, what I'm referencing to is if there is any specific, linear, straight-forward list on what planet leads to what planet? A follows, B, follows C, follows, D, ect.

As in, what comes after lava, after barrens, after x y or z. If you or anyone could just provide a little straightforward list on what follows what, then I'd be right as rain. I just don't want to waste my time researching skills that would take too long to aquire, while fending off attacking empires. Thanks.
Not to mention, that the Wiki/Wikia doesn't really seem to put them in any straight-forward order. It just kinda jumps around, making it a conveluded mess.
look for the -0/-5/-10/-15 Malus on the Planet types. 0 = Terran, -5 Barren, -10 Ice, -15 Lava. So if you keep upgrading to the type with less pissed on population, you are on the path to terran. (and jungle/waterworld)
Gas Giants and Asteroids -> Lava and Barren -> Desert and Arctic -> Arid and Tundra -> Terran, Ocean and Jungle.

As you see there are at least two planet types in every tier. If you're aiming for Terran it doesn't matter much if you say make a Desert or Arctic, it's the tier that's important.

I get that each planet tier has a bare minimum of two planet types, but are you saying that there is no specific order in which i have to upgrade?

Example: Lava to Artic, or Barren to Desert, Lava to Desert, Barren to Artic, ect. Or does it follow a specific upgrade order?
yes, he is saying that there is no specific order for each type. just that you can only move up one tier at a time.

so for example, if you have a lava planet, you can do:
lava->desert->arid->terran
or
lava->arctic->tundra->terran

or whatever you like. the main limiting factors is that the research to do them are deep in the tree, and also you need strategic resources so that can influence which ones you do and when.

@spesimen Thanks alot for clarifying that man, I really appreciate it. If I have any other questions, I'll make another post on the forums. +10 internets to you good sir.

Habitability and ColonisationEdit

Planets come in 5 main habitability classes, each divided up into several specific types. All classes except Class I (Terran, Jungle and Ocean) require colonization technology.

◾Class I Planets (Terran, Jungle, and Ocean) are the easiest to colonize and provide plenty of food Food. Opportunities for Industry Industry, Dust Dust, or Science Science are generally fair, but can be very good, depending on the planet. Class I Planets can be terraformed from existing Class II Planets by researching the appropriate tier 9 or 10 technologies.

◾Class II Planets (Arid and Tundra) can be colonized by researching the appropriate tier 1 technologies from the Exploration & Expansion tree. While Class I Planets are preferred, Class II populations are quite large and give very small penalties to Approval Approval. They provide less food Food than Class I, have adequate amounts to sustain 2-3 planets. Class II Planets provide excellent opportunities for Dust Dust or Industry Industry. Class II Planets can be terraformed from Class III Planets by researching the appropriate tier 8 technologies.

◾Class III Planets (Desert and Arctic) can be colonized by researching the appropriate tier 2 technologies. Less desireable than Class I or II as Food Food is scarce (without improvements), but these planets offer excellent opportunities for Dust Dust or Science Science. Class III Planets can be terraformed from Class IV Planets by researching the appropriate tier 7 technologies.

◾Class IV Planets (Lava and Barren) can be colonized by researching the appropriate tier 4 technologies. Living conditions are harsh, leading to a major Approval Approval penalty. These planets have no Food Food (without improvements) but are a rich source of Industry Industry or Science Science. Class IV Planets can be terraformed from other Class IV or Class III Planets by researching the appropriate tier 5 technologies.

◾Class V Planets and Asteroids (Gas Giants and Asteroids) can be colonized by researching the appropriate tier 5 technologies. These planets and astroids are the least desirable for the inhabitants (they're going to be really grouchy there). Like Class IV Planets, food Food is nonexistent. Aside from the lack of food however, Asteroids provide very good opportunities for ALL three Industry Industry, Dust Dust, and Science Science. The Gas Giants on the other hand, are generally poor but provide outstanding opportunities (in fact by far the best) in Industry Industry, Dust Dust or Science Science (depending on the gas composition). Gas giants can be terraformed into other types of gas giants or into Class IV planets with sufficient technology. Asteroids can not be altered in any way by terraforming.

By the way, you don't always want to terraform straight to Terran/Ocean/Jungle planets. I actually think that having gas giants can sometimes be far more valuable, especially if the planet has no anomalies or resources and is either small or tiny (Endothermic structures gives a disproportionate bonus to those worlds). Also wait until you get the two late population structures as well (+1 or +2 with a moon, and +2? for gas giants/asteroids).
