Game is just terrible
Talk about OP A.I..I hate these 4X that require you to use A VERY SPECIFIC combination of tactics OR YOU'RE DEAD! Players- avoid this garbage game, Developers- learn from the mistakes of Endless ♥♥♥♥♥♥**.

doesnt every game require specific combination of tactics? civilization, capture a base. attack it with units. BUT OMG ITS FORITIFIED! use artillery. durr.

supreme commander, i attack with land units, BUT OMG HE USES AIR UNITS!!! use anti air.

endless space, im attacking with rockets BUT OMG HE GOT MISSILE DEFENSES!!! built lasors.

call of duty, you attack a hot spot BUT OMG THERE ARE EXPLOSIVES!! use engineer to see them.

red orchestra 2, you capture a flag BUT OMG THERE ARES TANK COMING!! use an anti tank rifle.

hope you get my point. every game, even real life, requires that you take specific tactics to counter another one's tactics. its been like that forever. the AI in endless space is not too unbalanced but unpredictable, thats whats making it fun. i could make a fleet of ships with nothing but lasers, and then i suddenly stand against an enemy fleet with high shields.

Oh, is that so Filtercon? And just what is this specific combination of tactics that I'm required to use?

I think this frustration stems mainly from misunderstanding the mechanics, and granted, there is plenty that isn't explained that you only learn from experience. In Endless Space, the 3 weapons and defenses interact in different ways that you must understand to know what counters what. I play the game mainly for the combat, because different ship combinations can lead to very interesting engagements. There are some very powerful strategies, like all missle destroyers, but with a little intelligence and good game play mechanics there is a counter to everything the AI, or other players, can throw at you. I would encourage anyone who doesn't like the mechanics to learn more about it before disregarding it as boring or imbalanced, because they simply are neither.

Honestly though, the AI is terrible, and incredibly easy to out maneuver if you understand how the game works.

♥♥♥♥♥. It's not the developers fault that you can't learn how to play this game. Normally I would pass a topic like this up but the developers for Endless Sace are awesome.

i thought so too, so i did a match with 8 hard AI's and they were a helllotta tougher than normal AI's. try to do matches beyond normal and see if your opinion changes.

i agree that the game is terrible for the money ive paid yes it looks pretty and the mechanics of it can get quite confusing at times but you need a bit of focus it seems they have abandoned any wow effect. set paths with what i see is the possibility for very limited fleets makes the game boring for me. the ships dont even move or change start positions they just crawl forward at snails pace in a stright line alone with the missiles, you think a civilisation that can master warp drive can invent some better equipment

I didnt take to this game when I first got it. But if you perservere its actually very good. Sure the difficulty is harder than in some 4x games - even on Normal, but I put that down to good design and implementation. Id hate to play a game that can be worked out in an afternoon session and then becomes a cake walk.

I think if you approah your games feeling okay when you lose a planet or get defeated in a battle you will enjoy this game immensely. If you are not happy with this then perhaps an easier level will help you get into the game, but tbh you're probably going to be happier playing against an ai from some 5-10 old game.

Guys, stop pretending like you don't understand what OP is referring too.

Two different enemies will have different armaments. Sometimes an enemy will set up their forces as missle heavy. Sometimes beam and sometimes a mix. Granted if you are only fighting a race that went missile heavy then you have to choose tactics that will give you the advantage. You will not experience this over 1 - 3 games. If you don't give the game time then you won't have a very good experience with it, if you do then you will have a blast, at least I did. Also the AI isn't over powered, maybe try playing on a lower difficulty or reading the tutorial messages?

As I remember, the only thing that annoyed me about the game was how I felt I needed to expand like a plague in order to be functional. I couldn't attempt to fortify an area, as doing so tended to see me losing ground over time to the AI.

It may well be that I'm just not that great at the game, but it's certainly fun to get together with your friends for a nice big game here and there.

I wish the interface designers for this game would go work at Kerberos and help make the next DLC for Sword of the Stars 2 be a total UI rework.

I'm not sure calling our game "garbage" and "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" will help us improve anything. It's even so condescending and disrespectful without any explanation, I was too sad to reply to this thread... :/

But back on topic! Some players find the AI over powered, while others think it is too weak. Good or bad? Challenging or game breaking - that's where we try to balance / tweak the game features as much as we can. As suggested above, you should try playing in a lower difficulty and check out strategy guides, the community wiki or simply ask other players for advice. I do that to get better at DOTA 2 or FTL.

As for the AI criticism: we have worked a lot on it, in the past months. You should find improvements tonight already, in our 4th free add-on.
