Star-killing weapons?

When I used to play Space Empires III years ago: to say nothing of uses in Star Trek or assorted sci-fi novels; there's usually a super-weapon to destroy stars. In SE-III, you could blow up a star (wiping everything out in it); then colonize the resulting asteroid fields.

In ES? Not that I know of. I don't think you can destroy star systems.
