On one hand its definitely fulfilling an old Ascendancy/Gal Civ itch, on the other the mechanics make me want to locate the developers and personal ♥♥♥♥♥slap every last one of them who thinks the game is in any shape or form balanced or offers multiple ways of victory.

So yeah if you like space TBS games where you're forced to follow a single strategy to have even a PRAYER of winning even on newbie difficulty grab it, otherwise find something else.

The strategy Xiane is talking about is crazy fast expansion to get as much territory you can as fast as possible. If you do that and have a fleet to defend from early pushes by the enemy you can relax and is more free to play it your way.
Oh and having a technology lead is also very important.

If turnbased space 4X games is your thing it's a bargain. You'll get your moneys worth. :)

Edit: It's a shame really that many seem to dislike ES because of the need for very fast expansion in the beginning. The game is fun. It just have this one major "flaw".

Yeah well random events can be a bother and some of them needs balancing badly. But like every 4X game with random events have this feature to some degree. ;)

The pirates aren't that bad in the beginning. A couple of starter military ships can usually take care of that and then you'll have some ships to defend from the enemies early push already. ;)

But of course there are exceptions. It IS random after all.

This game is more a card game with a space picture in the back, dont espect any animation, exept for the fighting where you just click fight and wait, X+X=Y. It's a clicking game, if you like browser game you will like it.

This is a post from one of the hundreds of frustrated newbies that lose out on even the easiest difficulties, resulting in nonsense complaints about 'having to follow one strategy'. The AI is nothing special and is a pushover at normal difficulty.

When you can play the game at a high level you'll instead be frustrated by how poorly balanced the game is (and this has in fact gotten *worse* with subsequent patches!), leading to it becoming highly repetitive and bland. I honestly can't recommend the game, there are much better strategy games out there - look into the Supreme Commander series if you want realtime action, or Civilization if you prefer turn based. The only real recommendation I can give for ES is the low price tag while on sale.

I would recommend GalCiv 2 if you dont have it. Endless space is okay, but I really hate the combat system.

This game definatly feels like GalCiv2 or MoO2. Both of which I love.

Multiplayer adds lots of fun though. But that can be said of most games that have both single and multiplayer.

The game can be a bit repetetive and frustrating at times, but it really is an intelligent game that makes you really think about where you want to put your focus. Some people may not enjoy this (as many people like games to be easy to win and dominate at) but this game brings a level of fun that comes with a sense of fulfillment as well. Furthermore, after nearly 150 hours played on this game, I still find it extremely addicting as you will find that you always want to complete just one more turn before logging off.

It's really beautiful, but horribly balanced.
