Why pick up guns?
I've been playing and don't really see a reason to pick up another person's weapon. You don't have to worry about ammo as it is infinate and you don't really know what attatchments are on it. I think this is a feature they could cut out of the game with out any loss.

Picking up other people's guns is more or less a means to give yourself some ideas. Say someone is wrecking your face with a specific weapon, maybe it's a really awesome effect that you've never seen before (say like a Cluster Salvo launcher; something unusual). It gives you the oppertunity to try out the weapon without having to build it and potentially pay for the parts, such as a gun equipped with X-Ray or Bioscanner. I pick up other weapons every now and then to experiment with them. Gotten a couple of good ideas from them.

In terms of actual combat advantage. Guns you pick up are always fully loaded. If you're in a pinch, your beam's on fire and your bolt-action weapon is spent, you can grab a dropped gun which may be faster than reloading whatever you bring into battle. Alternatively you can dispose of a support weapon you packed in cases where teammates are too far away and you need more firepower to get back to them.
