What's so great about this game?
I'm sorry but I honestly cannot comprehend why this is such an immensively popular game.
I don't get it, this game is more popular than Counterstrike and it rivals TF2 for the #2 spot in most played almost every single day, someone want to fill me in??

Are you from Europe? Your profile says Canada, so I'm gona guess not... North America is one of the only places in the world that isn't soccer obsessed so mostly it's everyone else in the world enjoying the game. Though I'm a huge fan from the USA of all places haha. In addition to being a game about the worlds most popular sport, its extremely detailed and probably the best sports simulation game available. The guys who make the game, SI, have a world wide scouting network of regular joes who watch tons of games in order to make their evaluations of players as real as possible. Hell it's even known that a few teams actually licence SI to get their database info on players to help them bring in new talent into the team. I could go on and on as to how well the game is designed compared to many other sports simulation games. The only other one I ever played much was Out of the park baseball, and that game, although great in its own right, has less than half the attributes that FM has, is very simplified outside of games and has no match engine aka is entirely text based. FM is by no means perfect, FM13 has its share of annoying match engine errors here and there, but it is the best option for sports simulation and its the kind of game where if you know how a team works and how to play the game you can be successful.

Agree with the guy above me. Additionally don't forget there are those of us who don't like cs, tf2 or other popular games. Tastes differ. Either you're not the type for this game or you haven't played it in detail.

It took the world cup and working with a group of guys from all over Europe and South America for me to finally get how awesome soccer is... now I'm an addict and finally have a good reason to get up early on the weekends. :P

wow, that's actually pretty incredible- the close amount of detail the developers pay attention to.
I'm originally from germany (no hate please, lol) so I actually really love football.
I was never aware of that a FM/ Sports simulation community even really existed. from your description this game actually sounds very acomplished, polished. I'm a fan of Real-time strategy and RPG's so I'm going to check out Football Manager 2013. Anyway thank you to everyone who responded, I'm no longer ignorant on the subject LOL. thanks!
