In my opinion they can over-complicate the way your team plays. Often ends up just frustrating me. Personally i only use "get the ball forward" when attacking and trying to score. "retain possession" when i want to control the game and hopefully see out a result, and "take more risks" when on overload. But I'd say that 70% of the time, i never use any.
yeah i shout the same and work ball into box cheers mate
They can be a great way or turning a game around or seeing a game out. This explains it in more detail and explains exactly what everything changes;

i have a set of shouts which i use to put active at the first teamtalk, before the match starts.

They are made so they fit my playing style, and i am sitting heavely on the top of the table with swansea, so i guess they work.

i use them. it works 4 me. i try to implement them on my style of football instead of using them as a desperate atempt to win or not to lose. ex:my "control" shout uses:pass to foot,play wide,play throught defense & keep the ball.i use this against better oponnents in the first 20 min. sorry 4 my bad grammar,have fun
i would say they work, currently playin as Trafford in the Northern Premier League First Division, using same tactics and instructions as every game I play, I played Chester (Conference North, so 3 leagues above in pyramid) in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying round, instead of using Attacking, I used Control and won 4-0, all 4 goals in 2nd half !!!!!
would you say control is better that useing attacking and do you use fluid im still new to the game and cant work out best playing style yet lol
I use them all the time with great effect, great way to change to conservattive tactics in the last 10 when winning or vice versa. stand off, retain possesion, play even safer, drop deeper etc. or push higher up, hassle opponents, get the ball forward - couldnt play without the quick access to such tactical instructions personally
To answer your question i'd say control over attacking unless your playing a much weaker side, save attacking for use when chasing a game or your on top and want to press the advantage. Use overload only when its squeeky bum time and you need that equalizer/winner at any cost.

My current team is rated as a mid-table side and i play counter attack in most games against top clubs and even similar rated ones with control against weaker sides, we are playing well above expectations this season too.

Your style should fit with the type of players you have too, no good playing control if your team is poor at retaining possesion and set to fight against relegation, your simply not going to control most of the opposition. Control is for when you expect to be the better team and have more possesion. If you go with control and find the opposition dominating you i'd suggest going to balanced or counter-attack.

If your not sure starting balanced (middle setting) is good as it allows you to assess the situation.
