Crashing loading music library
Has anyone else had issues with Symphony crashing and closing itself when loading your music library?
Mine will get to about 4200 tracks and will completely stop and shut itself down, anything i can do to avoid this?
Using win 7 64bit

Symphony keeps crashing on me after scanning 5k songs or so. Is there any way to have it scan and remember a few folders at a time and then rescan a few more folders so that way it doesn't have to rescan every folder again?

I notice a crash too if too many mp3 had a common album name, my bet is that rather than dynamically allocating an array for songs per album, there is some fixed size.

Your best bet is to organize the music and have the game scan a few folders at a time I personaly got about 250 songs and they all scaned the first time through. Though I catagorize by band

NormireX,
Thanks for playing Symphony! We did our best to juggle as many codecs, decoder SDK's and configurations as we could. However despite our best efforts, there is such a wide variety of user files and system configurations that some systems run into issues. Theoretically, there should be no issue with 5000 songs, or multiple songs with the same album name. But with so much content out there, there probably is an issue with the combination of music files, decoders and folders Symphony is encountering in this case.

Until we fix that particular issue, I would recommend going with what Fermit recommended.

Thanks again, and apologies for the inconvenience!

Hi there,

I'm bumping this thread instead of starting a new one because I've got a similar issue.

Is there a way to know which file is causing the error? I'm tracking it via Microsoft's Process Monitor now, but it'd be easier if the game has a log or report about the incompatible file

Thanks

I just bought the game and it's happening for me too.

It doesn't seem to be able to read unicode file names which I guess is fine since it's not actually crashing on unicode files (file names with foreign characters) but it seems to crash on specific files for me. At first I tried to have it read a larger music directory but when it crashed I decided to narrow it down to a few albums. There was still a file in there that made it crash. I guess I have to be really specific with what files I allow it to see. It's still pretty annoying though considering I haven't really had this kind of problem with audiosurf and beat hazard. My music collection is stored in flac, mp3, and a few m4a (itunes format) files.

Also one other issue that was kind of big for me is where is the controller support?

My game crashed at 3000. I'm trying to sync it again but it's really frustrating because it takes a while to get past the first thousand songs.

Well.. I got it working after I removed the music files which it kept crashing on "Limbo Soundtrack" from the humble bundle. I hope you guys fix this issue soon!

I was having this same problem with it crashing after about 6,000 songs, but I noticed it had got through my iTunes folders and was on about letter F of my main music folder, so I fixed it by syncing only my iTunes folder and not my main music folder too. I will try and get my main music folder synced too, but I hope this helps people at least play the game for now.
