Game Keeps Crashing When Reading Music Library
Bought the game during the flash sale today. I started it up and told it where to find all my music, but each time it tries to index my music files, it reaches a certain point and then just crashes. Anyone else having this problem?

Make sure you don't have any non-audio files in the folder you're choosing (e.g. .zip, .rar or .exe files), it's allergic to that stuff.

I double checked, and I don't see any. There are a few album art image files, but that's it. Do non-English characters also cause the crash? I do have a couple tracks with Asian characters in the title.

I'm not sure about that, my files don't have special characters.

The game crashed on my pc when it tried to load an album which had 1 song with a duration of more than an hour. And it kept crashing while scanning that song/album. I manually added all the subfolders except that folder.

Thanks for the help, guys! I was able to get it working! Just had to remove a few problem tracks until it was done archiving.

i would like to know what exactly makes this thing crash, and if there is another 'fix'

my music library is gargantuan, so trying to go through the thousands of directories and finding either special characters, long tracks, or some other issue would be a huge time sink for a game i paid $5 for.

I have the same problem as tucker. Keeps crashing at different points after 3,000+ songs, but there's no way I could review the whole database.

Had this problem as well. Kept hanging somewhere between 1500-2000 songs. I solved this by adding the songs in smaller bulks. Since I have my collection separated in folders like /albums, /soundtracks, /comedy etc and then a folder per artist whithin those again, it wasn't too hard to add folders with a couple of hundred songs at a time. Took me 10-15 minutes to do but I only added 5000 tracks or so. Guess this solution would still be a pain for you guys with really massive collections, but at least this worked for me.

Just to say it's worth not giving up. Just successfully scanned in 15,000 plus songs without a hitch (although it took a couple of hours). Not aware that I did anything different in the meantime. Just seemed to work this time.

I have the same issue. Randomly crashes during adding my library, do the devs even update this game anymore?

Long answer: The last time they updated this game was in August, the same month they released it on Steam. I guess that means they mostly (or only?) cared about making remittance, otherwise they would've patched that already.

Short answer: No.

Hey guys,

We understand the frustration these scanning issues are causing and want to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Although we did our best to test as many cases as possible, the sheer amount of variety in user content is exposing cases that cause either our code or third-party codec code (which we are using a lot) to crash. We are working on an update patch and will possibly ask for some test cases in the near future. In the meantime, we just published a new FAQ that goes in a bit more detail into crashes and various design choices for the UI at http://www.symphonygame.com/symphony-support-faq

Thank you,

Francois
