Interactive story-telling as its best.
This is what this title is all about, defining a genre of its own and putting Telltale Games at the top of modern days developers. Quick moral, brutal, harsh decisions surrounded by The Walking Dead dramatic universe add up for one of the biggest heart-pumping and emotional stories ever written in video games history. And for that alone, this game should be in any gamer library, unless -of course- you are scared of zombies.
Technically speaking, The Walking Dead is mediocre at first, notably getting better by the end of the season. They surely did a great job getting textures to look like a comic book (no cell-shading or other post-processing here) but gameplay and sound-wise it's plain horrible. Animations and controls are clumsy, and sound quality and voice-acting (again, mostly related to quality issues) really puts you off an otherwise good atmosphere. The only consistent aspect is, in my opinion, music. Fortunately, you can easily get passed graphics and gameplay clunkiness, and sound quality reaches music level towards the end of the season. Once technicalities can be put to a side, you are left to enjoy the outstanding story.
Episodes are well timed, always leaving the player wanting for more, but also providing the sweet amount of playtime for those who long playing sessions are sometimes an issue. This was a plus for me, and made a weekly episode a very enjoyable experience.
As closing words, I may add that achievements are very easy to get, presenting achievement hunters with a great opportunity for another 100%.
Also, The Walking Dead is going on sale pretty often so you can surely find a good price for your budget in a few months period.
