TL:DR? See Conclusion
The Walking Dead by Telltale Games, is an episodic video game based on the popular Comic Book series of the same title, which, was made mainstream by an equally popular TV series, also of the same title. The game features 5 'Episodes' with a 6th Episode as DLC. It boasts an outstanding plot, great characters and immersive choice and consequence based storytelling.
You are Lee Everett, a professor on his way to prison for the murder of a US State Senator who, was having an affair with his wife. The game starts with Lee at the back of a police car when he met an accident that wounded him and killed his officer escort. All hell breaks loose when he discovers that the dead now walks and is hungry for human flesh but, in his desperate search for help, he stumbles across a young girl named Clementine. Follow their struggles as they try to survive a terrifying and deadly world in this post-apocalyptic suspense game where every choice you make directly impacts the lives of the people around you.
+ Great use of 3D cell-shaded art style
+ Excellent example of Consequence based choices and Story (The game's biggest selling point)
+ Great Story
+ Great voice acting
+ Memorable characters
+ True to the Comics source material
+ Good game time and nice replayability
+ Guilt inducing choices
+ Stress inducing choices
- Restrictive camera
- Very small maps with no room for exploration (I don't mean it should be sandbox, but it would have been nice if the players had more leg room)
- Gameplay is a bare minimum (not much to do)
- Some choices have no real impact to the over all plot
- Tendency to have some boring scenes and segements
GREAT GAME. RECOMMENDED for both fans of the comics and gamers who are into good stories and plots. The Walking Dead by Telltale Games is the best example of immersive consequence based storytelling I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The story is top notch with a well written and well round characters who were excellently voiced. The art style works in the game's favor as the cell-shaded world captures the look, feel and tone of the comics.
Gameplay, sad to say, is a bare minimum, nothing much to do than make decisions. Some of the action sequences are heart pounding, but in it's core, its just a regular Quick Time Event scenario. The game also suffer from a restrictive camera with some odd angles. Despite these though, the game is still WORTH IT whether it be full price or sale price. This is a MUST HAVE game even for just the experience.
