[FAIL] - Cannot remap keys
Seriously. Getting so tired of this - you have no business releasing a game on the PC that cannot remap the keys.

I normally check - I wouldn't have bought it. Won't make that mistake again.

Some additional thoughts on this - I know there's a group of people that give off the 'it doesn't matter if you can't remap'. Please just move on. There are a bunch of us that touch type (I'm a coder) and having my fingers FORCED to WASD and THEN having the screen say 'hit Q' or 'hit E' is really annoying. I've failed some of the mini-games simply because due to my fingers being on WASD and them saying hit 'Q' caused me to hit the tab key.

I'll say it again: No game on the PC has any business being put out without the ability to remap the keys. I've seen some horse♥♥♥♥♥♥excuses about it 'being by design'. Whatever. I've yet to see anyone say exactly what design would be violated if I could make my move keys ESDF and my mini games keys 'W & R'.

It's unfortunate as the game is cool. I like the animation style and the way it has been done.

My .02

Not only that, but there is not even an option to invert the Y axis. This is inexecusable. I really wanted to get this, but no Y axis inversion is a deal-breaker for me.

Seriously? You have to use any control so infrequently that I'm surprised it matters. Plus, if you happen to die, you just retry again and the story moves on. This is not an action game. This is an interactive story that occasionally requires you to aim slightly with a mouse or press a certain button or you die, which is no big deal because you have unlimited retries. The story of this game is so good I'd buy it even if the controls required me to stomp my feet.

That's your opinion and I respect it. Of course there are people out there that don't care - and you are obviously one of them. More power to you. I'm not trying to force my way of play on you - don't try to force yours on me.

Here, I'll turn what you posted to my point - I WANT to be immersed. Every time I hit the wrong key, there goes the immersion. Maybe you just wander your way through games dying and re-loading. Again, more power to you - it's fine if you like it that way. Personally, I don't see how you can be ok with failing (and yeah, dying is failing) in a game due to the UI being badly done. I don't mind dying because I screwed up - but not because the UI is bad.

Here's a much better example that your scenario doesn't cover:I missed saving the girl because my instinct was an inverted mouse - NOT because I didn't react fast enough. That didn't kill me - that dinged me. If this doesn't bother you, fantastic. Enjoy the game. BUT - do not imply I am being unreasonable for expecting to be able tor re-map my keys on a game simply because you are more tolerant of bad UI's than I am.

Faenor - thanks, yes, forgot. The lack of mouse inversion is also screwing me up.

Not everyone uses QWERTY keyboards layout.
I for one use DVORAK, and the AZERTY layout is common in Europe.

I still believe that I will find a way to play this game, I wish there is a simple one.

The expection to remap is perfectly reasonable and not terribly hard to make possible either. This is most certainly a fair criticism.

WASD is the easiest way for me to play. Dunno bout you guys.

I also use an AZERTY keyboard and feel that it is a design mistake to not take into account that there are customers using a non-English keyboard.
Nevertheless, probably already stated many times in various forums: if you install not only e.g. your AZERTY keyboard but also the English QWERTY one (Windows 7: Configuration, [geographical options such as clock, language and region - sorry I do not have an English Windows], Keyboards], then run the game windowed and change the keyboard (normally if you have installed several keyboards there is a field on the right side of the task bar where you can click and change the keyboard). It sometimes takes a while before the keyboard changes. Then you just have to bear in mind that the text on your keyboard no longer reflects the keys as recognized by the game: Z key is W in the game, Q is A, S remains S and D remains D, A is Q in the game, E remains E. Remains confusing of course, but at least the geography of the keys is more convenient to play.

I agree completely. Games like this rely on a sense of immersion. Nothing destroys immersion more than forcing people to use specific key bindings.

/me too. Just finished 'Episode 1', and I think this game is really, really good, except:

I use a Dvorak layout. Which means I'm searching all over the keyboard every time I try to make a move. It's nuts. And as others have said: immersion-killing -- and inexcusable given that keybind remapping is a ludicrously trivial task, especially when compared with all the other stuff involved in writing software like this.

@devs Fix it already... please! Not just for me, but for the other Dvorak users, and the AZERTY folks, and the Colemak crowd, and, and, and, and...

/em trundles off to dig out an old QWERTY keyboard to get the best from the rest of the game...

Umm... maybe I'm wrong, but you can't use the arrows to replace the WASD?
Maybe that can help.

But true, key remapping always is a nice feature to have.

for keyboard compatibility problems

while in game, press esc

your game is now windowed

go to the bottom right of your screen, where you have sound/ internet/flag icons

click on FR(or whatever your language is)FR is for france in this case
turn FR into EN(english)

press ALT ENTER once more

resume game

your keyboard now is considered qwerty

(if ALT ENTER doesn t put your game into windowed mode, then, it s CRTL ENTER)
this is for windows 7, could be different on other systems

@happy, thanks for your advice but not every one have a querty keyboard installed.
I don't have one.
I could install it just for this game, but it adds un-needed complexity, while it should have been an easy fix.

Thanks, rincewind, you're right. Not used to using those keys, but at least it's a way of handling the problem. On a Dvorak layout the 'Q' and 'E' keys are close together too, so it's doable. Preferably with a third hand ;) The ideal would still be a remap ability... /wishlist

(Wow, episode two was intense!)

I've resorted to using AutoHotKey when presented with this problem now. You can rebind keys and switch back and forth pretty quickly by using hotkey script commands, it takes a bit of time to learn the scripting but its all really easy actually and there is a huge helpful community that will help you if presented with a question.
