S1 save files not showing after Steam's latest update
I just beat ep4 a few days ago with no problems, but after I updated Steam last night, my save file isn't in the menu. I'm guessing that has something to do with it, but I don't know how to fix it. Anyone get the same problem or have some solutions?

I'm having the same problem, and so are lots of other people, from what I've seen reading threads on Telltale's forums.

Telltale staff are telling people to download some troubleshooting app and upload the logs to Telltale, but every thread I've seen where a Telltale employee instructs someone to do that, they never follow up in the thread or say what the problem is. As for me, I've tried the toubleshooting app, I've reinstalled the game, I've tried rebooting my PC and logging out/back in to Steam.

Nothing works so far. Seems to me that this is a problem on their end that was clearly caused by their latest update, and instead of fixing whatever it is they broke, they're having us spin our wheels. Annoying.

I had this issue a couple of days ago. Here is the solution.

Go to the folder where you installed the game (e.g., steam\steamapps\common\the walking dead\) and cut (don't copy) the file prefs.prop.

Now go to your Telltale Games\The Walking Dead\ documents folder and paste the prefs.prop file.

Essentially you want to move the prefs.prop file from your game directory into your documents directory. Here are the most common locations for this documents folder:

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

Windows 7
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

This fixed it for me so that my choices in chapter 1 persisted through chapter 2 and the problem hasn't occurred again now that I'm on chapter 3.

THANK YOU!! Seriously, dude, thanks for posting that, it worked perfectly.

If anyone has trouble finding the prefs.prop file, check steam\steamapps\common\the walking dead\pack\default as that's where my prefs.prop file was. I followed the rest of the instructions exactly as Demodulated wrote them, and it worked instantly for me the next time I booted the game up and selected a save file.

Cheers.

I guess it's different on Macs. I found the WD folder in the Steam folder, but the prefs.prop file isn't in there. The only thing in it is the app. But there is a Telltale games folder that has the prefs file along with the saves. I tried putting the prefs file into the Steam WD folder instead, since I don't know where else to put it. No dice :/
