I used to use a controller, but now I generally go with just the keyboard; the mouse I've always found kind of strange to play with.

I find the game unplayable with a keyboard and mouse. This is especially true if you have to combine jumping with the whirlwind skill (platforming portions of the game). I bought the series (all 4 games during a steam sale) but I've basically abandoned it all out of the frustration of having to use a keyboard and mouse.

@subarus202 USB ones are easy to hook up and configure, if you have a wireless controller then your computer needs a Bluetooth adapter. There are cheap USB adapters if your computer doesn't have a built in one.

I don't have a controller so I'm stuck with keyboard. I tried playing on normal difficulty with Hugo but soon gave up. I had problems with diagonals. Finished the game on easy.

I'm completely unable to even play the game with keyboard. It has jumping puzzles that require some kind of combination of Z,X,C key presses. C is for spin attack, and X is for jump, and some combination of X and C is required to do a double width jump.

This kind of playability glitch is why I pay $60 for Nintendo games, and I burn my PC on a bonfire, and throw all the gaming keyboards, and mice, onto the bonfire too. If I could, i woudl burn my steam account, and Ys Origins, and a picture of Gabe Newell, too.

(Yeah, I'm annoyed.)

Oh. or maybe I'll have to go buy an Xbox controller.

Another complaint; Why the #$()*#$()*()* can't I save my game?
For some reason I've never had a problem with keyboard controls. I've been playing console-style games on keyboard controls for years.

I don't use mouse though. That just feels weird to me.

I played with keyboard and controller (Xbox). I'm happy with both but I like being able to hook up the controller to my laptop and then HDMI cable to TV.

Wired XBOX 360 gamepad.
Gamepad totalmente. Es un juego muy rapido y muuuy dificil. imposible con mouse.
If you're used to using keyboard controls (mouse is just for menus, if that), use that, if you are more used to using a controller, use that, both will work well. Then if you don't like the default key set up, change it in the settings. I can never make sense out of the complaints some have for a game that center around the default control set up when they can easily change them.

I recently bought a controller for this game. It's a lot easier with it than with the keyboard.
