This one takes place a few hundred years before Ys 1. Origin is the very first game in the Ys timelime. The order is Origin, 1 & 2, Oath. I label them as Ys 0, Ys 1, Ys 2 and Ys 3, which are their literall numbers in the timelime of the series.

Chronologically, it's the first, yeah. But it was made way later. A lot of people would say playing I & II before Origin is better. I personally think either way is okay.

Thanks Man. Do you guys think its a good man and worth the money? I really like Story-Driven type of RPG game.

The Ys series is honestly way more action-driven than story-driven. But the stories are still pretty good. Of course you don't have to take my word for it since I may seem biased. I'll let someone else answer the "is it worth it" bit.

Ys was one of the first action RPGs I played (on sega master system) and is also one of the most loved. The music and atmosphere are just "right there" - it'd be hard to say why playing Ys feels so exciting vs. other game but it just does. The story and characters really help but the overall package is what makes it a solid set of games.

If you want to play it in the order the devs intended, play YsI&II chronicles first. Not sure which to play next out of oath and origins, but I'm playing origins and loving it.

If you hate japRPG style games steer well clear, otherwise it's likely the best you will get.

@Abby - Leveling up automatically restores you to full health. And if you find herbs those also restore health / heal you. If you're talking about the magic power then that slowly restores on it's own.

I played Origins before Ys 1 and 2, the gameplay is a huge difference but I still enjoyed being able to follow the story like this. just finished Ys 1 and going to play Ys 2 this weekend, such unexpected little gems.

If you are playing the series for the first time, it doesn't matter if you start with Origins or 1, but if you want a bit of go back before the series starts, I suggest beginning with Origins.
