No video?
When I start the game up, I hear the audio, but no video comes up. If I press a few buttons, I get to the title screen, so I assumed it was just a cutscene issue, but when I try to start a game, and wait through the monologue (which is in french, I think? not sure if this is an issue or that's how it's supposed to be), I get to a point where the music changes and nothing else happens. I assume that's where the game itself has started, but I can't be sure without being able to see anything.

My computer should be more than capable of handling it - I've played OiF and it seems to be similar enough that I would simply assume I could play this too, but maybe that's not the case.

Any suggestions?

Generally a codec issue. A media splitter may be hooking the game or there may be some sort of problem with your installed MPEG codecs. (That's all the game uses, simple MPEG.)

So, a couple of questions, before I go off googling how to do the first one:

How would I go about changing my codecs to fix this, and which ones would I need to change?

Also, why would there be a difference between this and any of the other Ys titles available on Steam? I've played I/II and OiF and not once have I had this issue.

EDIT:

So I've done some fiddling, but I just can't seem to get it to work. I've looked into other suggestions people have made in regards to fixing video playback problems, but nothing is working. I've installed the K-lite codec pack, uninstalled DivX (someone was having an issue there), and tried enabling/disabling a wide variety of codecs and I get nothing.

The video files play if I open them outside of the game, albeit with no sound - I'm not sure if that's quite right, but I at least have video.

I would like to make a correction, however: once I let the game go for a while (I gave it a while longer during the new game intro movie), I can see the actual gameplay, so I can at least play.
