Story/title in the right order/sequence?
Hi can someone who have played all three titles inform me in which order i should be playing the series? I would like to properly follow the storylines, as intended by the writer.

Should it be based on the release dates or is it origins first? Thanks

As long as you play Ys I before Ys II, you're fine. The series has nods to other games but there is no particular 'order'. It's recommended you play Ys Origin after Ys I & II, because those two games make a lot of reference to each other (well, Ys I & II aren't referencing Ys Origin per se, but there's a lot of stuff you'll recognize), but many people have done it the other way and been just fine. Thing about Ys II is that it literally is like a second half of Ys I, starting right where Ys I ends. That's part of why the games are generally sold together.

Origin is 700 years before Ys I & II though? Wouldn't it be better to play the origins first in that case? What is the reason I should play I & II first then move back to 700 years earlier? Thanks for your explanation =)

The reason is because Ys Origin spoils one of the big plot twists of Ys I & II, but at the same time, I personally feel it works both ways. I myself played Origin first, and I enjoyed I & II more because of it. I & II is a better choice first to many people for some other reasons, though: For one, I & II have more primitive gameplay. It's harder to go back to that, for some people, than to move on FROM that. Also, they were made first, so a lot of the stuff that comes up in Origin probably wasn't thought of back then. Origin fills in a lot of blanks well, but it was made much later, after all. It makes sense to play I & II before Origin because they were made first, in that regard, whereas with other games in the series it largely doesn't matter. It DOES work both ways, though. Play Origin first if you think you'll enjoy things more that way! You'll still get more out of I & II later if you do! Just as you'll get more out of Origin if you play I & II first.

Hi again Sara thanks for your response, I for one don't think I would be bothered much with the more primitive gameplay/combat system since I had played this kinds of genre since the early 90s anyway. Furthermore I am more interested in the story and how it flows to one another. Basically I'm more of a storyline/plot person... In this case what would you suggest?

Also is Oath in Felghana a stand alone? When is the setting of this part with relation to the other two titles? Should I play this one the last?

And also what comes to mind is: Is there any kind of save game carry over or character import system from a previous title?

Oath in Felghana is standalone. All titles besides I & II are, really, besides the Origin-I & II connection. There are no kinds of "carry-over" except from Ys II; If you install Ys II and Ys I at the same time, then by default, it will move straight to Ys II when you beat Ys I, seamlessly.

Timeline-wise it is:
Ys origin
Ys 1\2
Ys IV
Ys Oath in Felgana
Ys V
Ys Ark of Napishtim(this one is fun-translated),which have quite a bit of references to the other games
Ys Seven

Through I am not entirely sure if it is correct,as Ys series consists of many versions of each part, and which of them is more "right" in terms of story-that I don't know.

Oath In Felghana is a remade Ys 3: Wanderers of Ys.
