How is this series?
I honestly haven't heard of this series until now, and noticed they're on sale. Honest opinions on them?

I'd get Ys Oath in Felghana and this Ys Origin game.

I'd also start with Oath in Felghana because it's the earlier game and going back to it was a bit hard for me.

But I loved both of the games and I played through Ys Origin game 3 times with 3 different characters. All 3 had different story parts and played a bit differently. So it was fine.

Among the best action games you can get on PC.

Ys I+II is a remake of the first titles which are very old and have a really annoying combat system so unless you really want them i would give them a pass.

Everything else what Zefar said.

I like the newer ones but the old ones are worth the shot too from the tiny bit I played, they are just more archaic I would say. Get all of them if you can, if not, just get Origin and Felgana.

All the games are worth it. Probably the best series I've ever played. The combat seems really obnoxious in the first two but you get used to it after 15 minutes. I'd reccomend playing 1+2 then Oath and Origins to get the full scope of the story.

Origins comes first though then 1+2 then Oath(aka 3)

Ys is for me the best Japanese A-RPG serie. I'm a big fan, and yes, I'm so in love.
Buy it.

Just wanted to say that the combat in I & II Chronicles+ is rather good. Its called a bump system, it takes some skill to adapt to it.

I just wanted to toss my two cents in since most people tend to dislike the combat. Due to starting the series with newer games.

So ... if just someone wanted to test the waters with just one. The best would be Origin? If it's really enjoyable I'd snag the others next time there was a sale

I honestly prefer Origin. Just beware that the Chronicles+ games might turn you off since the combat is basically just bumping the enemy. in falg and Origin you slash kind of like zelda but with the ability to jump.

Origin is one of the best games i have ever played, with easily the best soundtrack of any game i have ever played. Oath in Felghana is good too, but not as good as Origin, though the soundtrack is awesome. They're both great deals though. Not sure on I+II Chronicles + since i haven't played them yet.

Origin> I & II +> Oath> Two Ys games after Oath then> (Ys 6) ark of napishtim>then finally Ys 7 which is the new current one. In that order I do have sceenies of Ark too :D.

Personally I enjoyed Oath the most for it's environment and story but all of them have interesting stories. Origin has some more gameplay possibilities than Oath and 1+2 use an older style of combat.

Origin is one of the most challenging JRPGs I've played in a while. That said, it's also one of the most enjoyable, and the art and music remind me heavily of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, which is one of my all-time favorite games.
