Are the other Ys games like this one?
I'd seen this pop up during the Steam sales every now and then but never really looked into it until now, and I absolutely adore it. Straight to the action, not a ton of micromanagement silliness with armor and stats as far as I can tell from the demo, and wicked, wicked music. I'm simply wondering then if the other Ys games are roughly the same in this awesome style? And also where they might differ a bit.

Besides that, this isn't that crucial, but is there actually some underlying story to all this to follow? I gather that there may be, however the toss-in manner of the demo makes it a bit unclear.

Thanks for any and all responses, and darn it XSeed, you guys continue to bring over some very interesting titles! (As if my backlog needed to grow even further! =P)

Ys Oath in felghana is awesome, it uses a similar combat system. The Chronicles 1/2 games are much more oldschool and use a different system. If you loved this you really should grab Oath while it's still on sale. Basically the 4 games on steam are connected but only Chronicles and Origin really tie the stories in together with lots of references, Oath in felghana could be played before the others but story wise it goes as last of the 4.

I wish Ark of Napishtim was on Steam.

Yeah, search for Ark of Napishtim, it uses the same engine as Origin and Felghana. The PC version is JP only, but there's a complete English patch out there.

Would be good if Ys I & II had the same gamplay as OiF and Origin

Yeah I really enjoyed this series the Music and Gameplay, BOSSES!!! are what got me started colleting all of the other games in the series.

Ys Origins is a prequal of Ys 1 and 2

Ys Oath in Felghana is the 3rd game in the series and takes place after the events of Ys 2

If you have a Vita you may want to Try Ys: Memories of Celceta when it comes out in the end of November it's the remake of the fourth game in the series and looks very good!!!

The fifth game ( I don't own) hasn't been translated in English (but I belive the is an English Patch online somewhere) and from what I have heard isn't that good, but if you want it its on the PS2 but importating it may be a little steep depending on where you live in the world.

Ark of Napishtim is the sixth game and you can grab it for the PC(Japanesse only with English Patches online) PS2 or PSP both English Translated but only the PS2 game has voiced dialoge ( voices are okay) but the PSP has extra Content such as a harder difficulty mode.

Ys 7 is the last game in the series and is only Avaliable on the PSP and its really good too.

Ys 7 and Ys Memories of Celceta will have the same type of battle system so if you like one you may like the other.

It isn't necessary to play any of the other games to enjoy the story of the other ys games your play (with the exception of Ys 1 and 2) but it does kinda help intoduce you to the charecters in the series.

Hope this helps and sorry for the long post :D
