Game Music Y's
My taste has drifted away from these cartoonish RPGs but it's damn tempting to puchase this game for the music alone.

Dude, you need to check out VGMpire, they did a whole episode on the music from Ys games: http://www.vgmpire.com/2012/01/25/vgmpire-episode-12-ys-y-listening/

Cartoonish? Ys?

haha, sorry I'm 38 years old now, I enjoyed Y's when it was a Sega Genesis game. Now I can't play any RPG that doesn't have photo realistic graphics and physics. I guess I don't have the same imagination as I did was I was a pre-teen. Y's today is obviously for Anima style fans, and younger generation. I'd feel silly playing it today, but I am very nostalgic over it. I remember it being much more enjoyable that anticipated.

That's odd. When I matured, my tastes actually broadened and I stopped caring if people thought enjoying the things that I liked made me silly. I actually got some of my friends into the series when they came to Steam because I was able to articulate why the games were so awesome - and my friends agreed - mostly because they also miss the days when games concentrated on being good and memorable experiences and less about being photorealistic and filling in the focus-tested checkboxes.

I'm glad Ys hasn't stooped to that yet.

as i get older i appreciate that ys retains the difficulty, gameplay, and satisfaction from games when i was younger from the 80s and 90s

if there is an "anima" feel to these games i do not notice it
graphics and sound are among the least important factors for me, and i have played the hell out of this game

however i would appreciate some electric guitar tabs but anyway...

if you are 38 this game should be right up your alley
