Normal or hard for first playthrough?
Would I be in for too much if I were to start on hard instead of normal? I played the first game on hard and thought it was pretty easy aside from Vagullion and final boss, but from what I've seen Origin seems to have changed so much that I'm not sure if that counts.

While I'd very much advise against a first run on Nightmare, Hard would be completely reasonable if...well...hard.

I'd say it depends on how you enjoy games, personally I like an easier playthrough for the story and not getting angry at dying then bumping it up to something harder on the second/third. Origin is quite a bit easier than Felghana but sports three different playable characters with one being pretty unique in Ys terms.

To be fair, that unique one is also considerably easier because lolshield.

Breaks after 1 hit, long recast time, not good for multiple hit attacks....No. What makes him considerably easier is his range. :)

When charged it usually takes more than one hit and has 100% uptime for most fights (seems to vary by level). It'll often null even a multi-hit attack as long as it was up for the first hit, and even if it doesn't, the split second between hits can let you slip away unharmed. It's the most hilariously overpowered thing in the game, even on Nightmare.

It's the sort of thing that turns bosses like Toal from tricky but reasonable into an utter joke.
