control scheme
okay, i just downloaded the demo. the game has great music and graphics but what is killing it for me is the horrible controls.

Is there any way to re-bind the keys?!

i mean, the way they have it is all bass-ackwards. they have jump where the button to open your menu should be, attack where the jump button should be, and start cycles through your special attacks? wtf...

I'm using an xbox360 gamepad and everybody know this is how controls should be.

in just about every single console game, the buttons the buttons configured this way. (note, actual names of the buttons may vary, its the positions that is important)

_________________Y = special attack
X = attack _________________________B = menu
_________________A = jump

L and R = cycle through special attacks

they have

_______________Y = I'm not sure what this does
X = special________________________________B = jump
________________A = attack

Start = cycle special attax

menu = is opened by clicking the right analog stick...huh?!

I would really like to know if the buttons can be reassigned, this is the deal breaker (or maker) for me.

I'll confess...i did just play through the demo, and the game is "playable" this way...part of being a gamer is adapting to bad controls.
it's not that bad.
i still have 30 unplayed games in my library though...

The game's configuration utility allows full rebinding of the controls and is available through the Steam Library.

The game lets you configure the controls upon startup if you have bought the game.

okay..i guess it's just because it was the demo....well i hesitated too long , i'll just wait till the next sale then
FWIW, I have a tradeable Steam inventory copy, if you're interested. (Well, technically, it will be tradeable starting July 20th.)
Just as an update, my copy of Ys Origin is now tradeable, you're interested in getting it at a discounted price.

how does this Ys and the other work with the steam controller?

I put away my xbox 360 controller and used my Hyperkin 6 button Sega Genesis controller. Weird, but it just works out the box without having to re-bind any controls. I'm about 5 hours in to the game and can't go back to using a 360 controller. Something about the 360 controller just didn't feel right to me.

Aren't You tired using D-Pad for longer period of time?
Well, I'm not using X360 controller now, but I feel good with XO gamepad (although I might consider rebinding, because basic layout doesn't allow holding X button (magic) and attacking or jumping at the same time.
