differences between character stories?
Hi all, I completed Yunica's story, and unlocked the third character. But a quick check showed it's similar to the first one. Are there different levels/ bosses depending on the character? Cuz I ain't playin the same thing three times over.

Toal is the best! You can skip Hugo, but still there are minor differences (mayor in Toal case but it's still the same path anyway).

Hugo's story is very similar to Yunica's story, but Toal's story has some major differences. The layout of the tower is very similar from character to character, but Toal's story has some unique bosses. (Major Spoiler) As well as a unique final boss after Dalles...

sounds boring... anyone has a save with Toal before the final boss?

It's worth playing whole story for plot or just play again after longer break, like even months. It's like playing Diablo with different class. This game is very similar to Diablo 1 in that way after all. Floors, different classes/characters, but it also has something which Diablo couldn't provide - story from different perspective.

The differences between characters are MOSTLY minor but allows you to see the story through the eyes of 3 people as opposed to one. Mechanics are also different between characters and Toal has the canonical ending (otherwise I would be a bit more confused jumping into Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles). Believe me, its worth playing through the game as at least Toal and one other character (Id say that if you played Yunica OR Hugo there is little need to play the other unless you go achievement hunting)

meh, I'll just watch the cutscenes on youtube. the bosses were challenging but the levels were too linear and grind-heavy.

One other note...

After completing the game once, each new game you begin you'll get a SP bonus at the start of the game. For difficulties other than nightmare, you'll get 10000 SP x (number of "unique" completions -- a unique completion is completion of the game for a character/difficulty level, so Yunica/Easy and Yunica/Normal count as two, but Yunica/Normal twice only counts as one)

(Nightmare this bonus is reduced to 100 SP x unique competions)

Hey, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, how about playing the game on a harder difficulty? How about a challenge? How about different game mechanics that offer you a completely different feel? If you wanted this game for its story and narrative, go somewhere else, because it's kinda bland. The strength of this game is its challenge and gameplay, and if you can't appreciate 3 completely different ways to play, then I suggest you forget this game and move on.

I had fun playing it once, there's nothing wrong with that.

Then I guarantee you'll have fun with the other two, it's like playing different games. And yes, some story bosses (about 40%) are different. Just pick a harder difficulty, it'll be worth it.
