(New to the series)So this game is pretty darn tough even on normal.
I just passed the 4th boss and so far.

I haven't grinded at all. I mostly run passed enemies and move forward this difficulty could be my doing, but frankly I hate grinding. I've been able to time and perfect boss patterns to complete them almost unscathed so I feel that leveling just artificially lowers the difficulty and isn't something you'd need to focus on.

Healing isn't extremely plentiful nor can you carry healing items(as far as I can tell).

Enemies hit pretty hard and unless you want to sit around a grind for a while and are generally pretty threatening. Especially since save spots are pretty far apart.

Bosses are pretty brutal and quite unforgiving. They hit hard and typical require you to have precise timing when dodging and attacking. You also receive no healing during them.

If you don't enjoy difficult games then this will induce much rage and if you can't take the heat well you're gonna get burned.

Overall, I love it! Hope the rest of the series is this challenging.

I started a game on Inferno last night after beating it on normal about a month ago.

Yeah, I don't know if I have the patience to do it. Beat the first couple of bosses, but I keep getting destroyed by the random monsters in the dungeons. Illburn ruins is really bad on this difficulty.

I heard Origin was harder. I also hear that the game doesn't really require you to play the previous games, but there are items and bosses that are from the first two games, and you won't really understand their signifigance unless you've played Ys Book I & II.

Im very new to the series, and im mad I didn't get into it sooner. I beat Ys I and II on hard, then beat 1 on nightmare. Im on oath of felghana right now on hard and so far it's no big deal, some of the bosses just need to practice a little bit. I also kinda level grinded before the lava zone. 1 and 2 (if you haven't played them) are pretty challenging as well, tho they are a bit different. Next is Origin. I just hope Origin isnt as hard as people are saying cause I plan on playing first playthrough on hard.

i don't think origin is harder than oath.
but i played it after i finished oath, so perhaps i was more skilled at that time.

im playing origin on hard right now and haven't run into anything to difficult but when i played oath on normal i had to retry a couple of bosses quite a few times(damn chester).

I felt Origin was easier than Oath, but that could just be me.

You can beat every game on Normal without grinding levels.
Bosses are the only actual challenge (until you learn their patterns).
It gets a lot worse on Inferno/Nightmare. You absolutely do not want to get hit on those difficulties.

If you can beat nightmare boss rush, you can beat Inferno pretty easily -- it's just time consuming because enemies hit you like a truck. I usually have to grind 1-2 levels prior to boss fights to make sure I do sufficient damage to them since I tend to skip a lot of mobs.
