How is this even a game? It's practically an interactive anime show, complete with fanservice. I would never mind joining a match as a spectator, but I won't take part in the playing.
There are so many better alternatives out there. Real gamers don't play this. Only anime enthusiasts play this.
But let's not be biased here. I'm going to give it a fair review.
Let's start with gameplay
. It's good to start with it because it ain't all that great. It is a third-person shooter with competitive PVP fights, but we have seen examples of those. S4 League
, at least they play better than this. The lag doesn't help it gain any points either. Also, you can't host a listen server, so you're forced to join a server with the least latency, if you can find one. Word of advice: a MMO that is abandoned by its developers is a dead game. Deal with it.
Now let's look at the graphics
. Quite honestly, the graphics aren't all that bad. It's not some impressive top-notch technology, but you can't really expect that much from a game based upon anime. Character models are partly based on cell-shading to keep the authenticity. Level designs are interesting, but you'll be too busy duking it out to notice the environment. By the time you do, you're waiting to respawn.
The only plus point of this game is the sound
. Characters are amazingly voiced, and the background music during fights really gets you pumped. Effect sounds may get loud at times. Not recommended to play with headphones on full volume.
From all my descriptions, you can tell that this is a decent game. However, I maintain my stance that this is a game that I would watch
, not play.
My two cents? Suit yourself. That's all I could say. It's free anyway, you can get it if you have the hard disk space to spare. If you plan to pay for it, that is still up to you. Do me a favor if you ever pick this up though: take lots of screenshots and videos and post them up. Saves me the trouble of going in to watch a fight.
Hikumi gives this game, a 4 out of 10.
