This game needs way more work.
The game is no doubt pleasant. I for one who enjoys fighting games alot, this game looked like a godsend.
A 3D fighting game with normal/pleasant modes where you can slap people in the face nonstop?
Sign me up!
My first (And probably last) experience goes something like this.
I join the very first free for all arena. I decide to play as Dic (Big burly robot dwarf with shotguns for hands. Cool midrange and powerful slow close range. can sap all armor instantly which looked a little... powerful? I mean where talking about a 33% damage Area of effect here.) I didn't pay too much attention and started to play.
It was enjoyable. You fight against people with different class and it all ends up into one big pile of fighting.
Then problem #1 Shows up.
A Renoah Class is playing. Wait 2. No 3 renoah's. I wonder what is going on here and keep playing.
Okay. When you play fighting game. Is it fun to play as the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spamming long ranged attacks and fleeing like a coward? I mean do you like it when you invite someone to a street fighter match, And the only thing they do is non-stop doing Hadoukens up in front of you?.
Renoah does just that to PERFECTION.
You fight and they shoot from afar. Picking off you kills stealing the last hits with a powerful sniper shot and run away like a coward. Which is just that. That is the whole class.
She can also simply press a dainty button (Q or F for skills) And snipe everyone in the map from above dealing about 30% of you hp in one swoop.
This means. Example. You fight in a brawl. Ahah, everyone is injured. And then you get this Mark on your head. Everyone has it. Everyone panics. And seconds later 3 out of the five players are dead. Sniped without a chance to block or dodge.
All the kills go to the Renoah player.
Then i noticed how annoying the point system was.
For a fighting game. You can't simply add a last hitting system. You just cannot do that. Otherwise killstealing always happens where some guy comes in, lands a final strike and steals all your point (3 points for kill 1 for assist 1 point is not enough tribute to the player who has been killstealed.)
So instead of making a polished scoring system Like in Warthunder or Hawken where the percentage of damages, the number of hits dealt and the last blow are all calculated into fair amounts of points for everybody.
You get this game. With a severely unpolished pointing system making you grit your teeths in anger at some ranged classes.
(Ranged attacks should not even happen unless it is limited, I mean this is a fighting game we are speaking of here, Fighting.)
It's only scratching the surface as you realize that out of all 20 or so characters available. People seem to pick the same ones again and again. I cannot confirm this as i have only played for four hours. But for all this gameplay time, i believe i have only seen a third of the classes in the game. And only a quarter of the classes were used and overused like crazy.
Then what angered me next was the Valle class and items.
One of the most overused classed (And also mascot of the game) Is Valle. Which is a beefy 3000 Hp mastodon wielding a hammer. Which isn't so bad in itself, Wouldn't it be for abilities and items. One of them making her recover all her health points almost instantly making it the strongest healing method in the game. Along with invulnerability.
We aren't talking a 5 second invulnerability. We are talking about 20 SECONDS of invincibility.
The Valle can simply disregard most damages directed to her and spin to win.
In fact. Most overused classes are either long ranged or Spinners making it atrociously annoying to play against.
It is counterable. In fact, you can counter it often. But the simple act of FIGHTING against something so badly detailed as a 360 degree spam is Not pleasant. In fact you hate it. You hate fighting these people. Spamming and running away, Being cowards when you notice that every single methods of attacks are over the top insanely strong and whereas there is a very weak real defense mechanic other than walking away where you raise an easily bustable shield as people can strike behind you canceling it instantly.
Not only that. But people can also entirely heal themselves via potions. In fact you can simply outmatch anyone by spamming potions which are buyable items in the game.
Either sweat profusely playing this game or buy them with your credit card.
These concepts beats what a fighting game stands for.
A fighting game stands on what the definition of the word fight should be. It's a brutal brawl where people fight with combos and cunning to outwit their opponents. Instead people are paying to get an edge in battle and looking for guides on the internet to find out ''Which class is the most broken class''
It sucks, Because i had fun with this game. Some parts in this game i was really enjoying myself. Getting triple kills and such and just being badass with a giant robot dwarf.
But when i face such a bad system of gameplay where people spam the best options, you know there is some heavy class fixing to be done. And i don't know if they are fixing it or just adding stuff to compensate.
Anywho. Most of the umbalance is BEATABLE. Renoah's can easily be squished if you chase them forever, other classes need a little bit of blocking and thinking, where some others like valle and another class i will get to soon will simply make you hate this game.
The last bit of complaint on my part is the community.
This is the sort of community that would put LoL and CoD kids to shame.
Where everyone acts like they are hot stuff and insulting you after they beat you. Acting like a spoiled brat, Making silly faces in the chat.
The community is horrible. I mean you don't want to spar and fight with these jerks? They don't even know what GG stands for! It is bad mannered and childish and you should stay away from the chat box.
My raging point was when i played against this weird Thor-looking knight. (I did not check the name i was too busy deleting Archeblade from my library)
Which can easily go past your shield by throwing his weapons behind you and the most irritating part is that he can simply push you back whenever you strike him. Which means that you cannot. CANNOT. make a combo on the man. He stops your combo. His passive, Prevents you, From hitting him.
You have trouble HITTING HIM.
It insults the concept of fighting. This game INSULTS the concept of fighting,
It is a game where you must spam, cower and cheap your way to victory. Every single TIME. Standing against what the word FIGHTING stands for.
So no. I do not recommend this game to people wishing for a fighting experience. You will not get it here.
You will not enjoy this game unless you play the cheap way. I tried playing fair and i have failed.
I will not give it a score. Just consider my words.
-Smooth fighting mechanics.
-Decent mapmaking, SummerIsland really enjoyable amongst them.
-Lots of choices of characters.
-Easy to reach character content.
-Players would rather pick the best characters possible only to win. Making online interaction repetitive as you fight the same classes over and over again.
-Outright stupidly overpowered abilities varying from each character making the game unfair to play.
-So many minor mistakes destroys the spirit of what is meant to be a fighting game.
-Toxic community Over-abusing the games potion items and skills.
Side note: This a four hours in game review. Maybe one day i might come back and change my mind.
Do not take these words as true or false about the game. Make your own opinion out of this review and you don't have to believe what is written here. Maybe this game is better than what i think of it at the momment.
It's worth a try. Maybe you will like it.
