Money for heroes only
I just read your post Jay, and I like a lot of what you're saying. I understand your argument that half the heroes in the rotation means every other week we get to play our hero, and that heroes only being purchasable is a strong incentive for people to buy your characters but I think it is boring to play a game with nothing to unlock or work towards. I like the idea of unlocking characters through playing matches in-game so that I have an incentive to keep playing other than just to practice of goof off.

There will be in-game currency at some point to do what you are suggesting.

Yes that is true. They have already stated that there will be an ingame currency of sorts. I also agree with what you are saying about having things to work toward Vulden. I have expressed ideas around this before, including things like skins you can only earn through playing or through trading (yes I like the idea of tradable/collectable skins), temporary skins earnded for tournament wins (think jerseys of tour de france), that sort of thing.

At the same time though Codebrush needs to make money and I am pretty sure, by reading between the lines of some CB posts, that so far they haven't seen a lot of money come in. That's fair enough I suppose, this is still in beta and so people are likely to feel reluctant to drop dollars on something that still isn't ready for release (and I guess technically has the chance of never being released), but I would imagine this would put virtual currency right down the bottom of their priority list of things-to-do as it would be shooting themselves in the foot financially right now.

Well that's pretty promising to hear. I'm willing to buy the starter pack for now just because this game seems to have the same mindset about games that I do and hopefully it makes it easier for them to make the change sooner.

Well I personally think that is money well spent and I'm sure the Codebrush team would agree:)
They might even be able to get the heating in their office turned back on for a week now XD

To be honest, i don't need to unlock stuff. Just getting better at the game is the only award i need. Its not like you could unlock anything in unreal tournament right? Since when did unlocking stuff become a major aspect of having FUN?

Id prefer ingame for comestic add-ons rather than heros, eventually it would defeat the purpose of free rotation

Well, some people collect stamps to have fun. Wouldn't they be those guys that would enjoy unlocking stuff in the game? I agree that it's not a major aspect though. I am having fun in the game just by playing and Leveling up my rank.

Then again, I did buy Renny and her premium which is worth it's money.

The game looks more like a closed beta that became open before the shop is ready, but only 3 programmers cannot achieve the creation of a shop THAT fast. The fact that the game is mostly bug free and with a short of balanced gameplay is amazing on it's own.

but can we still buy any character we want before and after any possible change?

Obviously you can? The only change that might happen and affect the current paid system is lowered prices on skins and characters.

The point of the free rotation is to give players who don't have heroes unlocked a variety of heroes to choose that fit all roles so that new players don't screw over their team mates, while still forcing them to either unlock or buy the heroes. I like the idea of eventually not needing the rotation and just being able to pick every character whenever I want. I just don't want to spend a fortune to do it.

However the games main profit is from said heros, and if we just give them all away with ingame money, then codebush just fkd themselves. If the cost is too low, than that just makes it worse and if its too high, people wont be bothered to keep doing it for each hero. Since its steam based they also don't have the luxery of name changes and whatnot. Itd be better off doing more cosmetic add ons rathater than new skins or recolors for now

Besides the population is still small and giving everyone practically free heros with free rotation in place/people who already bought is kinda moot and hurting potential sales.

Games like this make money by getting more players in them and by cosmetics. Let's not forget that the game is still considered an Open Beta game, therefore, it could even just allow us to play all the characters for free untill the official launch. Things are being tested and are NOT expected to give any income to the company (or at least they should not be expecting any income for now even though people do buy stuff).

They don't have the luxury to limit the rotation either since they need to consider 7v7 situations as well. People still are going to buy character though, since their favorite one might not be in the rotation or they will want the premium (or whatever) skin. (renny's premium for the win! *cough* back to the main subject).

The real question here is whether they can find enough characters through the lore to develop and what else they have in mind to create(*example* like different specials for the same character).

This may not be a problem. As the writer of the Archeblade novel, is the co-founder of Codebrush Games.

The characters don't need to come directly from the Novel. You could go down the lore route. I'm sure there isn't any book that covers a particular fictional realm with every last myth, legend, story or place. Use your imagination!
