Enjoyable and nostalgic but leveling up takes WAY too long!
I remember Dungeon Master from my old Amiga and spending many a late night mapping it out with my brother. This was very enjoyable and gave me a wonderful trip down memory lane. Loved the puzzles and thought the monster animation and colouring was excellent. The story was well thought out with a nice twist.
However, I felt that the levelling up on later stages took WAY too long. I got to the end and my mage in particular was severely light weight in my opinion. I'd barely got her to level 13 of ICE and FIRE meaning a lot of the spells were pointless. How in the hell can you get one to level 50? The only way I can see this is sacrificing all bar one of the elements when using my skill points.
I'd killed virtually every monster on the way but even the toughest only yielded 1000XP.

Agreed. If I hadn't got this on Steam's sale, I would be a bit miffed. Acceptable as is, just not great.

The game isn't really meant for grinding levels. You can get a skill to 50, but you need to invest almost all skill points into this one skill for that. When you give your mage several different elements, of course the higher spells of those elements will remain blocked. In my opinion that balances neatly out with the fact that you have more spells to choose from, albeit weaker ones.

Gotta ask though, did you have actual problems in combat because of that?

No, not really. I was just hoping to get to use the fire shield, invisability, shock shield and lightning bolt. Just a shame really and I was on the more difficult level as well. Ultimately I really enjoyed the nostalga that came with it.

I think the levels come too quickly in the beginning and too slowly by the end. Overall I felt it was appropriate for the length of the game. But I did wish the game was longer so it was possible to progress more.

Pick one skill to max, and one secondary to put +/- 10 points in, and thats about it... a bit of a shame. Would be much more fun if you would get more skill points, but were limited in the amount you can spend in one skill per level.

It would be also fair if the game warned you at the start before you spend points to all the different skills:)
