What are these for??

Tar bead and the compass. I'm assuming the tar bead is used to craft a potion but searches on the forums for "potion, tar bead, crafting" ect.. have yielded nothing.

I would also assume that the compass is..well a compass. But it is unequipable and I don't notice anything new on the HUD or map screen

Thanks for any help! enjoying the game thus far. It's closer to how the new Wizardry should have been imho

You need a mortar and pestle to make potions, and you need a bottle to combine the ingredients with. You drag the compass to a party members hand, it works visually on the hand as you play (the direction changes on the equipped hand).

The compass is so you know which direction you're facing if you play oldschool mode and draw your own map.

There is also one place where the map silently teleports you and rotates you 180 degrees. The compass acts as a confirmation of this trick.

As for the tar bead:
