Why can't I light torches?

I want to put a torch on the wall and shoot it with fire spell but it doesn't do ♥♥♥♥.
Also, my front men keep dying from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ venom because I cant find any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cave nettles. help

If a torch burns out, it's gone, just drop it.

Usually when wood(or any substance) has burnt out naturally, setting it on fire again doesn´t have quite the same effect as the first time.
