best grimlock map mod
Which one is the best. Looking for one that keeps difficulty about the same. Looking for one that makes the puzzles a little less tedious. I have found it a real hassle to spot buttons and stuff in the base game.

any map mods that add more choices to character development?

Tough, there are so many good one's and everyone has his favorites.
"Master Quest" and "The Mine of Malan Vaal" are prolly the most popular.

Here is a list from the modding community which has some very impressive stuff: http://www.grimrock.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4361

Well hidden buttons are always more or less involved since most puzzles reveal secrets.

If you are more after puzzles then combat you might have a look at "The One Room Dungeon" or "Prison Ward".

I'm not sure i get you here. Beside few mods which feature fixed characters or parties LoG always gives the choice to you.

In case you ment party development including character swaps take a look at "The Sunset Gate" or "Eye of the Dragon" which you need to get from the linked list above; it's too large for the workshop limit of 100 MB.
