My 4 year old needs a dungeon.
My son loves to play Legend of Grimrock. He likes the exploring, opening and closing gates/doors and pushing buttons etc. The one thing he does not like is the combat.
Does anyone know of a user made dungeon that has no monsters? I know it sounds a bit lame but he would love exploring this sort of thing much better than the main campaign..
Failing that, does anyone know if/how it is possible to turn the monsters off on the main game or a user made map. Is it even possible?

I have tried to use the editor myself to make a dungeon but I was hopeless at it, so I am hoping someone can point me to a ready made one.

There are a few dungeons having no or very few combat but they can be quite puzzle-heavy. From the top of my head these mods come to mind:

"The Big Friendly Warden"
"The Awakening of Taarnab"
"Dhael Ahrkbeth's Ruins"
"The One Room Dungeon"

Thanks for those, they all look pretty good.

I don't think it's lame. Not a fan of waltzing combat myself. But thanks to your question, at least there are few dungeons that seems more to my linking.

Wish I'd seen this sooner. My boys were the same way, and I used to make maps for them with Wolf3D / Spear of Destiny and then, later, Duke3D (which they each learned how to map for as well). I'd love to make something for your son to play around in (mine are now in their 20s! o_O).

I won't put in any puzzles, just fun things he can interact with, and places he can explore (plus some breakable items to open new paths).

Are there any words you'd like him to learn? Or messages from you and / or Mom that I can put in notes or on the walls? Also, his name in there might be fun to find. :)

I'm in the official forums as SpiderFighter, if you'd like to PM me there, instead of here.

Thanks for the reply SpiderFighter. My son's name is Leo.
Words to have fun with would be:
Left and right. Forward and backwards. First and after.
First (do this) then after (do that). Eg First pull the lever then after that press the button.
Numbers between 21-100

Sounds great! Is there a particular wallset you'd like me to use (dungeon, temple, prison, or I can import another set if you'd prefer)?

He is used to the dungeon set. Any of them will do though, he likes the variety and the bigger the better as he loves exploring.
One problem he has other than monsters is the pit traps. He loves the noises when he falls down them so he does it over and over until he dies, then gets annoyed that he has to start again.

I can make a painless pit, but I'm not sure what kind of life lesson that will teach him. :) Instead, I'll have a nearby healing crystal at the top of the pit, and respawn it each time he lands below, so that he can continually heal himself while jumping to his heart's content.

That sounds brilliant. I didn't even know that sort of stuff would be possible.

Hey! Just wanted to tell you I haven't forgotten. Life's been really busy this week. I'm an Elder at my church and I have to take over two of the services this month, so I've been busy writing the sermons and getting all the readings written, plus my paying job. :) I should be finished with this Sunday's service in a few hours, and then I plan on working on the dungeon the rest of the day (I do actually have the first two floors already).

Sounds fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Leo's 5th birthday is coming up in June. It would be nice if I could give him your dungeon as one of his gifts. How is it coming along?

Great! Check your messages. :)

this thread has made me smile :) thanks for making my day! It's a nice change of pace to see users helping one another rather than critisizing and put downs. :)

Another game - a bit retro however - is 'Hack Slash Loot'. Passing note: to pick things up you go the character's feet and then go above the character.

Outside if the Steam enviroment ... there is an innocent little program called ... 'Brogue'. The monkeys here will getcha if you don't watch out! Dungeon level 'leaping' is not generally advised.

Both require some reading and comparitive observation skills. Does weapon A look better than weapon B; or what was the effects of that last action; or maybe the character ought to run like h*ll to be out of the way ... Both very additive .... [insert person's name here] are you in bed yet! BTW both of thise are solo playing, turn based, games so parents don't have to worry about kids meeting those quesionable people online.

(A Brogue Momment) I walked into a room of more than 5 Goblins and realized that I could not take them personsally, but I knew somehing in my invinatory could. I walked back down the hall and into the previous room. pulled out a bottle of incinneration and threw it at the door I just walked out of. In a moment of realization I saw that I to WAS also standing on the SAME streach of flammable ground! WIth three other directions to go I had my character run dowm the hall that was parallel and behind to the other hallway and room; as the code of the program was less likily to have the flame go back on itself. The 'wall exploded' and I died. I sat there and wondered what had just happened; it should have worked perfectly ... ? And then it dawned me bogs can explode if they are enclosed. The ground that the Goblins stood on was bog, and the section had doors on BOTH sides. The dungeon section exploded causing the common wall to shatter and kill my charaacter. It was a scene of all the rights creating one wrong.
