Similar games
So, I finished the game, done everything there is to do, all achievements. It's a great game.

So my question is, anyone know any similar modern games like this?

Might and Magic X: Legacy was recently released and is featured now on Steam. It has similar gameplay. http://store.steampowered.com/app/238750/

only buy m&m x:legacy if your not bothered about the modding kit..as buyers have been scammed on it...you cant use it fully unless you pay $1500 FOR THE FULL VERSION OF UNITY PRO.. BUT DIDNT TELL EARLY ACCESS BUYERS THAT !!...TOO MUCH OF THIS SCAMMING GOING ON WITH EARLY ACCESS... USED TO BE CALLED BETAS.. BUT ITS A SNEAKY WAY FOR DEVELOPERS TO MAKE SURE THEY GET PAID UP FRONT.REGARDLESS HOW THE GAME TURNS OUT ON RELEASE.

BTW IVE CONTACTED UPLAY ASKING FOR A FULL REFUND FOR M&M X:LEGACY AS I HAVENT GOT WHAT WAS PROMISED ON RELEASE

That's pretty... rediculous.

Not all Early Access/Alpha/Beta Titles are a scam or bad, there's a lot of really great ones actually, but that's pretty damn low, especially for Ubisoft. I don't particulary like Ubisoft as they've done some pretty stupid things in the past (Yay Keylogging and Backdoor Rootkit Risks in their own DRM! And even when it's not a potential hack threat to your computer, they expect you to go through multiple hoops on their side alone, not even counting the fact that you have to go through hoops on whatever service you purchased from... oi.) but that's just really, really stupid.

yeah it is very cynical..doesnt show steam in a good light either !!

betas arent a problem as you havent paid anything out and your still helping the developers to make the game better.but whats sneaky about the "early access" is..they take your money upfront ...then have us do their beta testing for them.then if the game isnt very good or in the case of m&m x:legacy..you dont get the full package on release.then it doesnt matter to them.
as they have our money anyway!!.so,once they have that why should they care??

There's a new one on steam called Paper Sorcerer that looks similar.

many think that buying Rome Total War 2 was wrong due to many bugs etc.
Rome 2 collected most money among other games for pre-selling but has not delivered

most games come out with bugs but you expect that....they usually get patched anyway.

Modern games? MIght & Magic X: Legacy is about it as far as tile-based dungeon-exploring games go.

Older games very similar to Grimrock are the Dungeon Master games, which were excellent. Other good ones were the Eye of the Beholder series. The Might and Magic series was a more fast-paced whimsical take, but fun too. If you want a more varied setting, then the Wizardry games are great. Be warned that of the games in these series were made in the 1980's and early 1990's and therefore have appropriately dated graphics. The exceptions are maybe the later Wizardry PC games (7 and 8) and the Wizardry console games, as well as the recent Might and Magic games.

Which systems do you own? If first person grid-based RPGs are what you're after, there are good ones for PC, DS, PSP, iPhone...

Here's a list of some for PC: http://www.gog.com/mix/grid_based_1st_person_rpgs

Many people have made their own dungeons (including remakes of some classic, similar games) on workshop. I haven't personally tried them to know if they are any good, however there are a fair amount of options which will obviously feel similar (but with new content) plus they are free!

As for other examples.. Legend of Grimrock is a call back to many similar genre games from yesteryear, you can probably find some of them online as abandonware or perhaps on gog.com. Though (as mentioend above) not only are they likely to be very primitive in terms of graphics and controls but there is probalby going to be some hoops to jump through just to make them run.

Paper Sorcerer! Its really good and only 5 bucks. I'm still deciding whether or not I want to gamble on M&MX.

I don't want to crap all over Grimrock because I really enjoyed it... but M&M X is pretty much better in every respect.

This is of course one man's opinion.
