Is this game worth playing? Are the mods decent enough to try out?

The game is definitely worth playing if you're a fan of the genre. The reviews across the board are great, and it's influenced a lot of other games since its release. Many of the mods do such amazing things with the engine that I found it difficult to replay the original game at first, because I expect it to have features that were never there in the first place (that mods have introduced)! For that reason I would recommend you play through the game once before playing any mods.

It also has a very active, creative, helpful, and friendly community. If you like EotB, DM, and the like, you really can't go wrong here.

Im a little disappointed in the combat mechanic.

long long ago, in days of Eye of the Beholder, you woudl eventually realize as your playing the game, that you can avoid almost all damage, if you have space to manuver, because the
enemies don't atk immediately.

so, when they step next to you, you have a split sec to atk, and then move away. This becomes a travesty.

but, the game sort of assumed you didn't know this trick right away, the early half of the game, the combat was balanced assuming you just stood there and duked it out with the monsters. and the game also had healing magics.

In this game, almost from the very start, the combat is biased where the enemies him too hard -- if they are allowed to get a fair fight, you are gonna die.

I'd like to see a version of the game where you didn't have to exploit the combat to win.

Sorry but you are wrong. Most of the time combat in the EoB's was so ridiculously easy that there was no need to think of other combat tactics than straight head-on brute force attacks.

Thus LoG does far more resemble Dungeon Master then EoB.

What is "a fair fight"? The purpose of combat is to win. When your idea of combat is to stand toe to toe with your enemy tanking him and keep trading blows until the stronger or tougher side wins well then your party will be dead very soon.

Worth playing if you like RPG, dungeon crawlers. You also need to like riddles and some arcade challenges - if not don't bother.

Base game is good enough to play. Mods just extend the fun.

Well, thanks for all the tips and advice, i'll probably play the sequel to this game on PS4. I decided to play Dark Souls 2 for the time being :)

peace!
