How is the boost built up?

So I bought this game and played a couple of hours now. It's really fun and the more you play the more you find some tricks, I like it. :)

But there is one thing I can't really figure out and I can't find anything via Google about this: How does the boost meter gets built up? Maybe it was explained in the tutorial, but I had to skip it because the game started windowed the first time and I only saw the lower right corner.

There are blue boost "stations" around the maps. The longer you stand in them, the more boost you get.

Ah, I thought they just boost you immediately. Thanks. :)

Theres a rare bug where the game acts as though boost is always pressed so if that's what's doing it check the forums. The topic on it has a few suggested potential fixes
