I don't understand how (since the unfortunate and untimely demise of SWG), anyone can play any other MMORPG. I mean, in all fairness, other titles might have the advantage of being a venerable title (WOW), or have a massive fan following (either FF XI/XIV), but when it all comes down to style, playability, and taking full advantage of the MMO perks, by incorporating them into the games construction, DDO, has done exactly what it set out to do...Emulate the adventures of the pen & paper game that has reached critical acclaim from loyal fans the world over.
All the versatility of the tabletop format is right here at your fingertips. You want to customize your stats and feats to build the most critical to form shield & sword knight, emphasizing value of honor and virtue, or become a shadow walker with deft fingers and mythic ability? You can. In fact, you can be both at the same time!
Multiclass? Yes, please! I found myself easily bored by other MMO's and their linearal ability trees; maxing out my characters to get a taste of their potential, only to wish that there was more I was capable of doing.
WOW? Pffft... not if the game paid me! DDO is the closest experience to the tabletop format as you can possibly get, without actually drawing up a world yourself.
And trust me, if you enjoy this game for even a minute, do yourself a favour, go pick up some dice. When you experience all that D&D can be, you'll never turn your back. It's the ultimate high.
