To the moon, is an indie game that will take you on an emotional roller coaster. This game with it's story, and execution will make the biggest of gaming men choke up with this beautifully story. Are you ready to ride this roller coaster of feels?
Game play: 5
While this game is a very story driven, it kinda of lacks in any real game play. You run around as one of the two main characters either in the dying old man johnny's memorys or around his house and outside of it.While inside the his memorys you are task to find key pieces to his memorys after each scene that plays out to unlock earlier memorys. Pretty simple, you look for the “shines” that shows up. After each memory chapter you are given a small puzzle of flipping tiles of a picuture to complete the memory. Overall the game play isn't the main focus here.
The story takes place with an the old man named, johnny, who is on his death bed with only one wish. To go to the moon. The two main characters you follow are, Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts who are from the Sigmund Corp. who has technology that altar the memory’s of people. They usely use the technology on people who are dying to grant them one last wish. It is the job of Rosalene, and Watts to altar johnny's memory to send him to the moon. While digging deep into the memory’s of Johnny you find out about his wife who passed away years ago. Who has had mental problems who befriends a light house. You also find out more about his pass on why he wants to go the moon even though he doesn't know himself. You'll end up meeting other characters from his, from his childhood to his aduit life who plays a big role in his life. With some dark twist.
This game proves that sometimes isn't not always about having the best game play or graphics to have a compelling story to get you immersed in whats going on.
This game goes with a 16-bit graphic style, with mostly bright and colorful graphics mix with some dark looking graphics to set up each scene nicely. Ir's like playing a classic Super Nintendo game. They paid attention to details to make sure they where fitting for the story thats unfolding in front of your eyes.
The music is well placed and helps to set the mood for each scene. The music goes hand and hand with the story. They did a great job in matching the music to how they wanted you to feel at that current moment. They also did a great job on the music overall. Having a great story and music can mean all the difference on how well a game like this could do, over all the music mixes well with the story and adds a unique experience that you wont find in many other games.
I found this game one of the best story driven indie games that I have ever played. The story gets really deep and it will touch most peoples hearts, While giving you a lot of overwhelming feelings that you though you didn't have. The story is a sad story, and can make almost anyone cry or at least choke up. I can safely say that I can compare this to the aeris death scene in final fantasy VII when it comes to emotional feelings.
As soon as I started playing. I was immersed in the story with in the first 15 minutes or so. I didn't even want to get up for anything. I only got up one time to use the bathroom, even then I was holding it in for at least an hour before hand. I beat this game in one sitting from start to end. I won't lie to you. I was crying by the end. I remember walking out of my room and my roommates asking why are my eyes so red and I said back to them “im just really tired I didn't get much sleep last night”.
If you are wanting a heavy story driven game, then this game WILL be for you.
There isn't any real amazing game play here but the story makes up for it ten fold. So for the people who are more about action style games, don't bother in picking up this game you'll most likely find it boring and not to your liking.
This game is just overall amazing plain and simple! It's a MUST buy for any story driven game fans out there.
Final Score: 10
