A very pretty, polished arcade platform puzzler available for Windows, Mac & Linux, of the "absorb random stuff so you grow large enough to absorb yet more random stuff and escape to the next part of the level" genre. Sounds simple enough, huh? :)
+ Graphics (looks and feels as beautiful as you might hope it could from the screen shots, even on a modest machine!)
+ The mechanics and physics (comfortable, intuitive and well behaved)
+ Gameplay (enough differences between the levels to keep you interested, stimulated and challenged.)
+ Difficulty (progresses in a friendly and carefully linear way: not too hard to upset a casual player, but a gamer who wants to get 100% will scratch their head until they hit that "Doh" moment when it all suddenly becomes obvious!)
+ Sound (great soundtrack, but see below.)
+ Multiplatform (Windows, Mac AND SteamOS/Linux comatible - I've mainly been playing under Linux.)
- Very hard to find anything bad about it, but perhaps there's not quite enough variation in the soundtrack sometimes if you're playing a bit of an addicted marathon - however, it's such a minor point it's not worth fixating on.
In summary: I have nearly a 100 games in my steam library, but I just can't stop playing this one; hence I felt compelled to write my first steam review. I can often measure the amount by which I enjoy a game by whether or not I just want to get to the next level OR whether I'm enjoying this level so much that I'm determined to clear it to 100% -- a rarity for me (as I don't often trying to fully complete games) Mutant Blobs definitely fits into the later category. :) Although I bought this game in a bundle, I would actually have been happy to pay full price.
Definitely recommended! :)
