Only see enemies and not fire or water..

I am having a graphics problem where I only see enemys and traps and do not see water or fire, just the tiles under them, I have tried forcing vsync off and a couple other things, I am playing on windows 8 with a nvida Graphics card. It is not the same flickering issue other people are having. although it will randomly switch rarely so that I only see fire and water and not the monsters
